German hotel hits back at Laura Bush 'poison' theory

Pretty fucked up if true. Never knew this happened. Laura Bush strikes me generally as a woman of integrity and it's doubtful she'd make a claim like this just to sell books.

I may not have agreed usually with GWB as president but he was OUR FUCKING President and if there is a shred of truth to her claims (intentionally poisoned)...heads need to roll if it hasn't already happened.

BERLIN (AFP) – A German hotel where then US President George W. Bush stayed in 2007 angrily rejected Thursday claims by his wife Laura Bush of possible poisoning, accusing her of a publicity stunt for her memoirs.

"We see absolutely no evidence to support (these allegations) at all," said Christian Ploeger, a spokesman for the Fundus Group that owns the Grand Hotel Heiligendamm in northern Germany where the Bushes stayed for a G8 summit.
"The food was checked by security staff," Ploeger told AFP.

"I suspect that this may be just to try and sell more copies of the book."
In her upcoming autobiography "Spoken from the Heart," a copy of which was obtained by the New York Times, Laura Bush writes that she, her husband and staff members may have been poisoned when they fell ill during their stay.

The president was even bedridden for part of the trip, and while the Secret Service investigated the possibility they were poisoned, doctors could only conclude they all contracted a virus, the paper cites Laura Bush as writing.

She lost her integrity when she married George Bush. She's seen her husband tell the biggest lies known to man to the whole world so it must've rubbed off on her. Seems like they've both got blood on their hands.

I saw this on TV last night. I doubt that they were poisoned (if someone wanted to poison them and got the chance, they would be dead, not just sick) but if it helps sell her book, what the hell.

I don't have any particular axe to grind against Laura Bush but it's obvious that she is simply trying to exploit the experience in order to line her (and GWB's) pockets. I know I won't be buying the book.

C'mon Jag...you're not remotely pissed at the notion someone may have tried to stick us with Darth Sidious (AKA Dick Cheney) as prez??:dunno:

I will tell you for certain that it's not always the case a poisoning attempt..even if logistically successful may not end in death but just illness.

Remember there are people who are trying aggressively to prevent such a thing from happening as well.

I'm not inclined to believe presidents and whole staffs end up sick and bed ridden by accident.

Either way...there are just some things we as Americans should take pride in and one is protecting our president...whomever he may be from the harm of others.

I don't disagree. I have great respect for the office even though I might disagree with the man holding it. Bush was my president too but I'm just not buying this "we were poisoned" story without anything to corroborate it. The doctors said it was a virus so until or unless there is any evidence to show otherwise, I'll take their word for it.

Healthy skepticism is generally rational but really, do you think at the time it happen...it would have been in the interests of America, Germany or otherwise for it to be speculated that an attempt on the life of our prez got that close?

Certainly the plot would be concealed by the perpetrators as well as possible.. even virus like since methods like DNA can trace sophisticated biological toxins back to pretty specific locations, users, etc.

You've been watching too many episodes of 24, Mega! :1orglaugh

I'm not saying it isn't possible....I'm saying there is no corroborative evidence to support Laura's claim. Until or unless there is, I remain doubtful about the veracity of the story. Remember....she's trying to sell books. A possible poisoning attempt is a whole lot more interesting and marketable than a case of salmonella.

Well...sometimes you look at all the circumstances and you come to a conclusion whether provable or not...Just think if we had to rely solely on what people said to determine what happened?

Just looking at things through my own skeptical prism.... 24 is entertainment....pure and simple.

she herself writes that doctors concluded that they all contracted a virus.
if there had been any evidence of anyone trying to poison them, there would have been a massive investigation into it years ago.

maybe i should claim that blueballs tried to poison me, and then people will buy my book? but alas, blueballs may just be virus... :)

'Mega, the reality is that Sarah Palin's crass commercialism has filtered down to a true lady like Laura Bush.

I think she sat back watched her husband embarrass and ruin a nation for 8 years, then she probably rolled her eyes at McCain/Palin and now is thinking..."why not trump up some bullshit and sell some books. People don't care for the truth anymore..."
:dunno:

Wait a minute, didn't the Japanese make his dad sick?
A pattern is forming!

Exactly what I thought... and they are both former Axis powers... ;)

I actually always like Laura, she seems like a nice lady. Now why she married GWB is a mystery... but to be fair, I bet he's a pretty good friend to know, and he may be a cool guy. He sure did his fair share of partying, and then turned his life around. Heck, if he was a Kennedy, he'd be a fuckin hero!

To be honest...I think Laura Bush was probably the most attractive girl around and had dopey W wrapped around her finger from date 1. I thought she was a very proper First Lady, and I hold her in high regard.
