George HW Bush slams Rumsfeld and Cheney in new biography

"Former American President George HW Bush has publicly criticised Dick Cheney and Donald H Rumsfeld, key members of his son's administration, in a biography due out next week.

Mr Cheney, Mr Bush said, built "his own empire" and Mr Rumsfeld "served the president badly,". Mr Bush also called Mr Rumsfeld "an arrogant fellow" with "swagger".

"I don't like what he did, and I think it hurt the president having [Mr Rumsfeld's] iron-ass view of everything," Mr Bush said, according to an article in The New York Times that cites the biography's author, Jon Meacham.

"There's a lack of humility, a lack of seeing what the other guy thinks. He's more 'kick ass' and 'take names, take numbers'. I think he paid a price for that."

Of his son, Mr Bush said he would often worry about the former president's rhetoric.

Citing the "axis of evil" reference in the 2002 State of the Union address, he said: "You go back to the 'axis of evil' and these things and I think that might be historically proved to be not benefiting anything.""

This has not been verified. You probably need to do your research before you wet your panties.

The story is no fake.

...

Controversial former Vice President Dick Cheney brushed off criticism by George H.W. Bush, who said in a new biography that members of his son’s administration damaged the reputation of the United States.

Bush Senior’s comments were made in a new biography about the 41st president, Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey Of George Herbert Walker Bush. “Just iron-ass. His seeming knuckling under to the real hard-charging guys who want to fight about everything, use force to get our way in the Middle East,” Bush said about Cheney’s response to the September 11, 2001 attacks.

He also said he believed Cheney had acted too independently of his son, George W. Bush, and that caused him harm. Bush Senior suggested Cheney’s hardline actions were influenced by his more conservative family members, namely his wife Lynne and daughter Liz.

Media reports does not an accurate report make. As I said numb nuts, GHWB has not commented on this but either way if he did make the comments, he 's a Bush. A one term president. His son, was an abject failure and his other son couldn't pour piss out of a boot.

I don't think Cheney, Rumsfeld will lose much sleep over it.

Bush is looking feeble lately. I doubt he could articulate a comment on it either way right now.

These quotes are from Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush by John Meacham, a very well known biographer. It's a credible story

Jon Meacham is a Bush family biographer. The Bush name has taken a hit and Jeb isn't helping.

He may have said these things but it reeks of casting blame. I' ll believe it when I see GHWB's own words and not some biographer's account.

The Bushes have proven to be petty with a clan mentality.. 41 your son sucked at being president. Whatever Cheney, Rumsfeld did or didn't do he was still the president and had the final word.

Man up and admit that Bushes just weren't very good at the president thing.

Nah, Bush 41 was actually a decent president even though he only had one term. He's universally respected by both sides of the political spectrum for his career in public service

Is there a correlation?

Reagan was and is despised by the left as well as W and they both won two terms.

41 was a war hero(shot down in WW2), an ambassador, Director of the CIA, a vice president, and a president. As I said, he's universally respected for his service to this country. As Obama said, he "was one of the more underrated presidents' we've had"
