I'd bet 50% of the people who say the series sucks, are stuck playing online multiplayer everyday. Or, they love the game and are just sick of the little flaws and they pretend they hate it.

every game has little flaws. ALL FPS games have a fuckin knife. And in each version of any newer FPS there are those losers who can't shoot for shit and run around knifing people.

Newer Console:
Any game with massively long cut scenes that either cannot be skipped (Metal Gear) or are integral to the story line leaving you lost if you did skip them.
Also, linear games such as Call of Duty ##, Gears of War, where you follow a scripted path through a level. Sandbox all the way.
Old School PC:
Star Craft and Command and Conquer - BORING
Internet:
Farmville & Mafia Wars - Holy hell what a time waster.
Old Console:
Contra - Button jamming like crazy
Street Fighter - BORING
Any game with massively long cut scenes that either cannot be skipped (Metal Gear) or are integral to the story line leaving you lost if you did skip them.
Also, linear games such as Call of Duty ##, Gears of War, where you follow a scripted path through a level. Sandbox all the way.

La Noire. I Tried soooo hard to like that game but it just puts me to sleep.
The closest thing to a sandbox FPS is MAG.The domination maps are fucking huge,and probably the biggest maps of any FPS.
I did hear that Operation Flashpoint
ragon Rising has a gigantic map as well.Someone told me that if you started on one end and walk the other end,it could take at least an hour.That's pretty fucking big.Oh,and I think Dust 514 will also have huge maps on that scale,so they are out there,you just haven't looked hard enough.

Sonic the hedgeehog's. Just about every first-party game, really. WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE SEE IN THESE PIECES OF SHIT?!?! Sonic? Mario? Run around. Same shit, diff game. So now you can double jump or use a mushroom to.. fleshlight yourself. IS IT WORTH IT?! SHeesh.

I think with games like Sonic and Mega Man the problem was they were great back in the day, but they are the type of games that just don't translate as well in the video game environment now. Things like 3-D worlds and sometimes even much better graphics either haven't or won't work as well with them. Of course that doesn't stop the people that own them from milking those franchises for everything they're worth.
I do think think Mario and Zelda games have held up a little better, but even they get milked for all their worth too much.
