Front Porch Song

Texas Monthly is highlighting The Front Porch Song by Robert Earl Keen. Good stuff and it's got me in my Pat Green, Gary P. Nunn, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Kevin Fowler, Texas Hippy Coalition, Steve Earle, etc., etc., Texas Country kind of mood. Any indigenous music to your state with some outstanding examples, please share.

I thought this thread was about the music you listen to on the transistor radio while being a porch monkey, leaning on a portico, drinking a glass of ice cold Luzianne Sweet Tea. If so, I listen to all kinds of music. Such as this little number.

The concept of a front porch is something lacking a lot in Germany. What a great way to spend leisure time and still not be in your own isolation, much rather be in contact with the neighbourhood and strangers. LOVE it!

My personal variation is that I live in a ground-level flat, and the street is directly in front of my window, so passers-by can see me and I greet them, if I choose to make arrangements opening blinds and maybe even the window

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to xfire again.

Dude....Texas music is in my blood!

Wait, is this for musicians from where the poster may live, or about where they live?

Either/Or, pretty sure the first three replies wasn't trying for either or, but yeah, indigenous musicians or songs about your Home-20, either/or.

Well, I'm still drawing a blank for Maryland, but here's some Texas props:

Song about the "Feierabend" (literally "celebrate evening", meaning the work is done for the day). German song

I thought there was something vaguely racist about this thread but it's cool. I'm taking it back.

Might as well have simply made this the "Texas Music Thread", XF. Doesn't appear to me that too many other geographical areas are making a very good case for themselves. In the meantime....more classic Texas music needs to recognized.

Not only is Billy Joe Shaver a musical genius, his late son Eddy was a fantastic guitarist as exemplified in the song. R.I.P. Eddy....we hardly knew ye! :crying:

How about David Alan Coe? Classic outlaw period music, still performing today (he played a local roadhouse close to where I live just a few months ago).

We'll sample some Willie in an upcoming post when appropriate. Didn't want anyone to think I had forgotten the godfather of Texas music and one of the greatest songwriters to ever live.

Chris Knight's haunting cover of a Robert Earl Keen song that is actually a Chris Knight song in disguise. Except for the lyrical fuckup late in this awesome live tribute, it's a song that grabs you by the roots of your soul and rips your heart out if you've ever been down and out in your life.

This thread will die if I don't keep adding Texas contributions to it and maybe that's OK but it ain't happening yet! This is a classic Texas song done by the great Bobby Bare and written by the equally great Terry Allen. Has been covered by many artists, including Robert Earl Keen. Bobby's is the best rendition IMO:
