what the fuck you lookin at?
You mean if you were given the chance to go into space for free, you'd pass it up? I for one would love to see earth first hand from space. I've seen pictures but I'm sure it's absolutely breathtaking to see it for yourself!

I'm with IAF on this one. Unless they're sending out terraformers to the moon or mars, screw spending all that money on the 'great beyond' when there are pressing issues in 'the great neighborhood'. Put down walking trails along roads. Put down more solar energy and wind energy power stations. More parks. Liven up dead parts of cities.

Anything but billion dollar missions to put up satellites for cell phones or spy satellites. I can already 'Hear you now' on my network.

Dead parts of cities, oh you mean the ghetto? What's the point "they'll" just fuck it up again!

Not 'those' areas! Downtown Indianpolis used to be awful, but they tore parts down, raised land values out the ass and made big nice colorful houses in its place. I believe they call it a newly gentrified area. SCORE!

IF man didn't explore, people would believe the Earth was still flat, with mariners fearful of sailing over the edge....and we would never see the Earth from this perspective:

(and please don't mention space probes - a computer cannot register, trepidation or excitement, imo)

It's man nature to explore, be it the ocean depths or outer space...

If you think we're still exploring space with our missions, then I must be taking my girl for the first time every night! SWEET!

But, eh.. we're not visiting other planets. There are no year-long voyages out and about to do sensor sweeps on other planets and avoid klingon D7's whilst trying to keep Kirk's dick out of everyone! I know, thats not exactly accurate.. but they go up, they go down. They arent going OUT and OUT..

US space agency Nasa says it is planning to start work on a base on the Moon after astronauts begin flying back there in 2020. The maps and graphics below show how and where man could live on the Moon.

MOON TIMELINE
2008: Launch Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter
2010: Last Space Shuttle missions
2014: Deadline for Crew Exploration Vehicle
2020: Return to Moon

By 2025, Nasa hopes to have developed the capabilities required to enable further steps into space - possibly expanding lunar exploration and/or manned missions to Mars.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step......:2 cents:

I stand corrected. My thanks, for changing my mind about the space program.. albeit not 100% with our luck on satellites and mars rovers and such. (A decepticon stepped on it, didnt it? lol! j/k)

In the spirit of equality, NASA's dream could remain just that.
While Dubya is keen, I also remember what happened to space exploration after Armstrong set foot on the moon....

Many of the technological advances in common, everyday products that we use today are a direct result from research & development for space exploration (you can include military r & d, as well as r & d for viewing porn over the internet).

yeah, but people still prefer internet over arpanet.

While I think sending people into space, but not all space missions, is a waste of resources that could be better put to use on something else, it is still pretty cool. Then again maybe we should end poverty and feed the homeless before we engage in luxuries. There have been some advancements because of that, but can anybody think of any major ones have been created because of our manned space program in the last decade or two? I would also be wary of any time table they put out, those things always have a tendency to be pushed back again and again, and are often too optimistic. Then again while people probably overrate it's importance it does have some advantages, and I would never want some other hostile or despotic country to get more advanced than we are because they focused on higher technology while we neglect it, and if it can create things that will significantly advance humanity and make it better for us than that’s good. More often than not, unfortunately, I just think they continue to send people up more for it's own sake than anything else. There is nothing wrong with that, but we have to consider it a luxury, and realize there are more important things that need to be addressed first.

Don't ask me wtf the European Space Agency are doing...probably ordering out for pizza at the moment.
