Friday the 13th

Many people have irrational fears. Friday the 13th is such an "unlucky" day for some, that the whole day is a cause for panic. Take Arnold Schoenberg, for example:

Schoenberg was an Austrian composer and creator of the twelve-tone technique. This method of composition ensured that all 12 tones of the chromatic scale would be used equivalently throughout a piece.

For as much he as he liked using all 12 tones, he was terrified of the number 13. His triskaidekaphobia (fear of the number 13) was so intense that he even changed the title of one of his songs so that it wouldn't have thirteen letters.

On Friday, July 13th, 1951 Schoenberg stayed in bed all day, sick with anxiety. This was both because it was Friday the 13th and due to the fact that he was 76 years old (7 + 6 = 13). He died of unknown causes roughly 13 minutes before midnight.

How will you be celebrating Friday the 13th today? What are other of your irrational fears?

I'm going on a flashlight tour of the Winchester Mystery House. That should be interesting.

But if you subtract 6 from that, you get 13.

If you add 6 to it, you get 25. Which is the number of men a professional baseball team can have on their rosters during the regular season.
Makes you think.

I usually hear about the passing of Friday the 13th on or about the 15th. :o

I am superstitious about black cats crossing my path while driving the roads, boulevards and expressways etc. Really, why would I hit a dog one night after a cat crossed my path?
Really, I've driven many a mile over the years and only once have I even come close to hitting a dog while driving, much less hit one! Yeah, that one time... You figure it out. :dunno: Anyhow, whenever a black kitty crosses my path, I flip a bitch, i.e. make a u-ey turn and go back crossing the path again in the opposite direction to unravel any hex that may have been cast. :dunno: Weird, I know.... and a bit semi off topic too.
