Thank you! This has been discussed for quite some time, with several angles how to do it.

I would favour a microchip-featured soccer ball that would automatically make the goal count go up as the ball passes the goal line. GPS technology can handle that, easy.

WAY too many fucked-up goal decisions, really

At last, too many high profile mistakes in recent tournaments, saw a program on the Hawk Eye system before FIFA decided against it last time, looked like it worked well then.

Good news!

At last, the IFA Board noticed we're not in 1880 anymore...

Great news! Football is the easily the worlds biggest sport and arguably most popular, yet it's the furthest behind in terms of technology. There are many ways to do it and it really needs done.

The decision to give Chelsea the goal against Tottenham was shocking. The one argument against it though, the small teams won't be able to afford it. As a whole though, it needs done

As much as I don't want England to win a tournament(As they'll go on and on about it), fair is fair, and this did cross the line

This has been needed for years.

A couple of dodgy decisions could cost relegation, a championship or a cup exit.

Hawkeye sounds a good choice, having been used successfully in tennis.

Begs the question:

Should micro-chips be placed in all of sports?

For example:

Hockey: Pucks crossing the goal line? Off sides at the blue line?

Football: Get rid of the "chain gang" and use micro chips to determine EXACT placement of the football.

Baseball: Micro chips located in Home Plate to determine Balls and Strikes?

Any other examples that can be thought of?

It could very well eliminate human referees.

I like it. Some will argue against it for tradition's sake but when a game/series/championship comes down to a call you have to get it right.

Interesting ideas. I could see them all being implemented with the exception of baseball.

< Modern technologies should be implemented in all modern sports where it makes sense. Especially on top level, where a single misjudgement could have enormous financial konsequences. Ridicilous, how long it took FIFA to accept this one minor adjustment. Maybe there were not enough bribes in the game:)

Furthermore I think soccer would do well with a video-reference similar to hockey. The playing time should have been looked into long ago as well, since our clocks do not longer depend on the sun.

Soccer is ruined quite enough right now with all the multi million Pele wannabes(yes I am talking about Neymar) with such kind of technology it will get even worse.

I don't see a correlation between players' lifestyles/attitudes and an advancement that could affect the way the game is refereed.

These goal referees are ridiculous, because they get payed just to stand around doing nothing the whole game and if there is ever a failure near a goal then they don't recognize them at all. So, there should have been this technology right from the beginning. Maybe even cameras and shit. The main referee should take the time to watch the recordings of them if he isn't sure about a scored goal

tartanterrier

Is somewhere outhere.
For the first time they are currently being used at the Confederations Cup in Brazil. Not that it'll get used much - as England aren't in the competition ;)
