For Metalhead ONLY!!!!

My Top 3 of All Time Would Be:

Black Sabbath - Fucking Originators, Without Them, There Would Be NOTHING!!!!!

Opeth - Progressive Death Metal (Mikael Akerfeldt is a sexy beast :D)

Pelican - Doom Metal (Fucking HEAVY!, Slow, Atmospheric, Sans-Vocals)

And Then My VERY Honourable Mention Would Go To:

Acid Bath - Sludge-Doom Metal (Just Fucking SICK!!!!!)

Mastodon - Sludge-Progressive Metal (Bad-Ass, Classic Black Sabbath Sound)

Mushroomhead - Electro/Industrial Alternative Metal (Better Than Slipknot! Never Sold Out Like The "'Knot")

1. white zombie-heavy metal
2. zyklon-blackened death metal
3. strapping young lad-a fusion of various types of extreme metal

honestly tho, depending on how i felt on a particular day or a band i remember that i had forgotten here, this list could easily change, some others right near the top are: amon amarth, pantera, emperor, nothingface, sepultura, entombed, mayhem, dissection, and the haunted...others too which i'm sure i'm forgetting

Iron Maiden
Amon Amarth from death metal
Blind Guardian from power

Recommended: Be'lakor, Obtenebris, Insomnium, Eluveitie, Kivimetsän Druidi, Cruachan and Astarte in case you haven't heard of these bands

Just 3? nah too many to mention.
Nevermore - Probably my fav metal band, esp their Dead Heart in a Dead World or This Godless Endeavor albums.
Voivod - Canada's finest metal band in my opinion
Dream Theater - Their Train of thought album is a prog metal masterpiece!
Symphony X - Paradise Lost is a great prog metal concept album
Sevendust - IMO the best (and only one worth listening to) Nu Metal band out there.
System Of A Down - No explaination necessary!
Corrosion Of Conformity - Check out their albums 'Blind' and 'In the arms of god'
Down - Pepper Keenan from C.O.C. and Phil Anselmo from Pantera, do I need to say more?
Mastodon - I can't get enough of their Crack the Skye album.
Cathedral - Lee Dorrian from early Napalm Death fame on vocals, very Sabbath like.
Sanctuary - 80s thrash/power metal band who got their start from Dave Mustaine, then split to form Nevermore.
Maylene and the sons of Disaster - Southern metal from Alabama and surprisingly good.
Probot - Not really a band but a great homage album to several bands like Motorhead and King Crimson by Dave Grohl.

There's others I like but they have already been mentioned a few times here.

-Agnostic Priest
-Gangagar Eldeleel-Alele
-Gognog Mug Alugdug
-Fuckface Academy
-Sausage Assassin
-Financially Raped
-Smugly Dismissed

Rep to anyone who gets these references w/o Googling.
