Typo -

"if you're on board, great, if not, that's ok too",
- couldn't let this one go :o correction made.

The Trees

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.

The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.

There is trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
As the maples scream "Oppression!"
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw.

Is this the level playing field that "our leaders" often refer to ? Communism ?

I prefer a song that isnt listed: The Trees (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZiDME3bajU&feature=related)

In all honesty, i never understood why i didn't liked much a band like Rush. They play a style of music i really enjoy, they are great compositors and creatives... Might be something with the singer's voice :dunno:

"the singers" ?

Are you kiddin me ?

Do I detect a Montreal Vs Toronto thingy, here ? :D J / K

Nah, im not representative of Montrealers on that - Rush is very popular and very appreciated here. :glugglug:

There is something in Rush singer voice (or Supertramp singer voice) that just don't go along well with my ears :dunno:

Out of that list I'd say New World Man.

But they have tons of awesome music. My favourite song by them is La Villa Strangliato. And also The Trees. I like their political message tied in with the incredible talent.

I've always loved YYZ (I'm a fan of rock instrumentals), or my favorite Rush tune is Bastille Day.

nothing is better than working in the factory and then hearing working man come on...it makes you feel so empowered

can't name a single fave. it wouldn't do justice to the archivement of this band:

the fountains of lamneth, 2112 (live version vom "different stages"), hemispheres, tom sawyer, witch hunt, jacob's ladder, different strings, chemistry, losing it, the body electric, mission, scars, ghost of a chance, the speed of love, resist or workin' them angels from the latest one..

beside "vapor trails" (which didn't grab me at all) this band was allways able to raise the limits, delivering hq songs between rock and pop and far away from being mediocre.

to me, rush is a real great band, in special a great live band. but as fan i've to state as well, that they may would have become an even greater band if they had a great singer. too sad, but geddy's voice is a shame for most of the songs, even if he gets much better over the years.

Working Man is the best on the list. My favorite live is By-Tor And The Snow Dog. Overall my favorite is probably Red Barchetta.

Musically, they are quite impressive, it's hard to deny.

HOWEVER, Geddy Lee's voice can ONLY be described as an "acquired taste" - and perhaps that's even being charitable!

;)

@facial king: absolutely. you've gotta learn to live with it. it's not that hard cause the music itself is outstanding enough to fall in love with this band ;)

Subdivisions- sonically rock solid and great lyrical content.

I know it is not on the list of choices-
but it was my intro to Rush and to me it is just the best.

great idea for a post; RUSH are great; just reading this sent me to my cd collection.

I actually didn't get into the band until Permanent Waves came along and I think that the Ged has mellowed his voice and had essentially abandoned the shreekey, wailing scream that we'd come to know in the earlier years. ;)

Cheers to the proletariat, right ? :glugglug:

Rush guitarist in New Year's Eve fight with deputies

Friday, January 2, 2004

NAPLES, Fla. (AP) -- The lead guitarist for the rock band Rush skirmished with sheriff's deputies, spat blood on one and was arrested on New Year's Eve after his son refused to leave the stage at a fancy hotel, authorities said.
story :rofl2:

Great poll-they should be in the rock 'n roll hall of fame. I've seen them on every tour since 1976 and they get better every tour. Out of the songs listed, I picked "Spirit" something about that song-it's also wonderful live:bowdown::bowdown:
