What, female vocalists, top the list as being your favorites?

Here are my choices: Siouxsie Sioux (Siouxsie and the Banshees), Kate Pearson (The B-52's).

Any female that sings well and actually writes EVERYTHING she sings qualifies. Or 95% of it. And writes music that is deep and a bit different. The emphasis being on deep.

Amy Lee pops into my mind.

Obviously there are many, many more out there.

I've heard two-vocalists from both the, 'Sisters of Mercy,' and 'The Pretenders,' that I enjoyed, a lot. I don't know their-names, or if they were mainstays with the band(s), although. I like Shirley Manson, (Garbage) but not enough to include on this list.

If anyone mentions Amy Lee, (Evanescence) or Annie Lennox: (Eurythmics) I must say that I find them to be vastly-overrated. I don’t even need to begin on, ‘soul-music,’ as I believe it is defined: Christina Aguilera, and company.

Lead singer for The Pretenders was/is: Chrissie Hynde. :hatsoff:

I don't know that many Evanescence songs (even though I have one CD). But I like her opera/dramatic style mixed in with main stream music. It's refreshing. Even her look is refreshing.
Anything that gets the music bean counters away from diva crap is good to me.

I humbly-respect her for her courage in broadcasting herself in front of so many, and her ability to make a living off of something like singing. This is all up to subjective-tastes, and prejudices: and I realize that, firmly. I, personally, cannot sing ‘better’ than her – so she is certainly, ‘better,’ than me at her niche in this existence.

The, 'soul-music,' that I mentioned: seems to have its roots, creation, and popularization from African women. Out of any of the rap-music that I have ever found to be catchy, danceable, cold, or street-smart: it has always been from the main source – African men. I don’t know if people like Christina Aguilera, and those that cross over into a whole different culture can really hold a candle to the originators. I am not saying that they can't, but I see a lot crossing over.
