Anybody else not feeling quite so sorry for her tonight? I mean, what this dude did was a serious violation of her civil right to privacy and I think the dude is a fucking douchebag for sure and I suppose that Marriott bears some responsibility (for sure) and needs to do more to prevent this type of thing from happening but.....$55 million???? Holy shit, that just seems like serious overkill from my perspective!! I understand her outrage and indignation and I'm sure all women's organizations will applaud this as being a manifestation of justice but....once again, $55 million????

The jury has awarded Erin Andrews $55 million in her civil lawsuit over the secret recording and release of a video showing her naked during a hotel stay.

The sportscaster's original suit asked for $75 million from the owner and operator of the Nashville, Tennessee, hotel where she was staying, and Michael David Barrett, the stalker who used a hacksaw to tamper with her room's peephole and record the video in 2008.

The jurors took photos with Andrews after the amount was announced, and she signed autographs, according to reports from inside the courtroom.

The jury found Barrett to be 51 percent at fault and required him to pay out more than $28 million. West End Hotel Partners, which owns and operates that Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University, was found to be 49 percent at fault and asked to pay out more than $26 million.

Erin Andrews Chokes Up Talking About How Stalker Video Affects Her Relationships

West End Hotel Partners has said Barrett's criminal actions were his responsibility, not theirs. Barrett was convicted in criminal court of stalking Andrews and sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

Defense attorney Marc Dedman, who represented the hotel, said that they are "disappointed" with the jury's decision. He has not yet spoken to his clients about whether or not they will appeal the decision.

Let somebody record me nude at some hotel and put it on the internet (I know....not the same thing. Right? But....hey it really is from a constitutional aspect) and let me sue 'em for $55 million and I would have to say I am seriously interested in this deal. Would all of you guys out there not concur? :dunno:

I usually get all my porn for free but this time someone will actually pay $55 Million for me to see porn. You'd probably have to directly pay me $55 Million to watch a porn called Marriot Bears though.

This is crazy to me. What happened to her was terrible, but ordering the hotel to pay $26 million when they had no criminal involvement??

There are people who receive way less when they or their family members get horribly sick or even die from negligent or criminal corporate pollution. Do you think anybody poisoned by the water in Flint Michigan will get 55 million? Hell, there was a mother in NY who had her hands and feet amputated in a hospital due to a misdiagnosis. A jury awarded her 18 million. Nearly a third of what Andrews got.

I understand that she suffered humiliation and loss of privacy which must have felt awful. I'm sure that she felt vulnerable and maybe even in danger because of this, but it can also be argued that she became a bigger celebrity and made even more money in her career. Should she be compensated? Absolutely. But we have some crazy priorities in this country. The fact that a jury would find this award deserved boggles my mind.

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
I agree. She had a payday coming, but not to the tune of 55 mil. I think 10 would have been more then fair.

I'm just glad those who fapped to that video weren't part of that judgment.

jk. I've never seen the video nor care to. For the record, just in case.

Wow, 55 meelyeeon dollars.

By the time all is said and done the hotel's share of around $27M will be reduced to about $5M or so and then keep in mind her attorneys almost certainly took the case on a contingency basis meaning they will get between 33-50%. She'll get something from this

Ad I couldn't disagree more about the hotel's role in this case. To me they are 99% responsible. This loser asked to be put in a room next to her. THAT ALONE should have been enough for them NOT to do it. If one of us calls a hotel asking to be put next to Taylor Swift's room I can GUARANTEE YOU - that ain't happening. Without the hotel's role in this - this never happens

Major Crimes? Shiiiit.
When I saw this on the news yesterday, i remembered a quote from Curtis Lemansky in an episode of The Shield.

"I mean, Christ, dude, Amy's not even that hot!" Just substitute the Amy for Erin.

On another note I think the 55 mil was awarded as a deterrent in a landmark case.

You can't make a case for 75 million in damages because you are not a public figure.

The public could though if we were ever subjected to nude video of you.

Good, she should have received the full amount.

This should make everyone care about other's privacy.

Holy crap I agreed with Will on something! This award was meant to be a deterrent to others in cases like this. Not just for celebrities, but everyday people have stalkers, or abusive exes. Hopefully this will convince Hotels and other companies that they need to start seriously guarding the data and information we provide them with. This creep got those videos because two hotels failed to secure her room information from the general public.

Jurors are not allowed to consider their verdict as a deterrent, they have to consider the evidence of the case. If it is determined that they reached the decision based on any other reason than the facts before them, that is sufficient grounds for an appeal.

LOL never thought of that. I'm not too concerned. They always go after the guy with the deepest pockets and, shit, I won't even have any pockets at all in that instance. :1orglaugh

A deterrent is jailing the perp not making some face candy and a couple lawyers filthy rich.

Not into the overly made up gangly look either but still $55 million??? For fucks sake.

In her defense, I have seen her in person at a few UNC sporting events and she wears extremely tight clothes and the big blond hair makes up for the butterface. Her voice is annoying as fuck though.

Just not into that walking statue thing.
And you are correct just one terrible speaking voice.

Erin Andrews is fairly attractive for being nearly 40. And she was pretty hot in those pro-biotic commercials. Nothing sells digestive tract health like sex.

But even so, she's no Britt McHenry, aka, my pretend girlfriend on the weekends.
