A Durango High School senior had her yearbook portrait yanked and says that school administrators told her the photo violated school dress code.

The debated photo shows 18-year-old Sydney Spies wearing a black shawl and yellow skirt with plenty of skin in between.

However Spies is arguing that she was just trying to exercise her right to freedom of expression.

"Some people might think it's a little bit sexy or inappropriate. But I think it's artistic. I think it's a good expression of who I am as a person," Spies told 9News. "I'm a dancer, I'm trying to be a model, I really enjoy photography and I think that this is a good thing to represent me and I think they are taking away my freedom of expression."

After turning in her photo for publication, Spies says she was told she needed to make a different selection even though, she says, the yearbook editors had already voted 4-1 to allow it. The editors however told the Durango Herald on Thursday that in fact they decided, and not the administration nor their overseeing advisor, to revoke Spies photo.

Thoughts? I don't see anything inappropriate in the picture at all.

And for the douche that went completely bat-shit on me in another thread, this is someone elses article too, numbnutz.

The one and only.
There's no way that photo would make it into our yearbook either. Not saying it's right either way, just stating a fact.

That was my thought too. That attire does not fit into any high school dress code, so I don't see how it fits into any high school yearbook.

Attention whore. I'll bet her facebook or myspace or whatever is full of duckfaces.

Just to clarify, is she of age???

Yep, she's 18. I creeped and found her on facebook, I know I'm bloody scum, of course she has that pic as her profile picture and other senior photos. She's alright looking.

As for whether or not it's appropriate for school pics, I really don't see a problem. It's not like she's posing in bra and panties or really even showing off her belly as she is standing with her side facing us and her arm is blocking her stomach. It's not even a provocative pose either. The school would be better off to just let her put it in there instead of letting it become a news event (on a local news event level, I should say)

Who gives a shit?

Seriously.

This is a good example of where we are as a society now... sensitive, nosy, and overemotional. So the fuck what if your little picture was removed from the yearbook. Why do I need to know that? Oh yeah, I don't. How this bullshit got this far is beyond me. What's next... goldfish obituaries? Fuckattahere wit' dat shit, bro.

I am a failure to the Korean side of my family
I heard she got that photo taken at Connie Depedesta's House of Klass out in New Jersey.

Just to clarify, is she of age???

Doesn't matter, she's fully clothed -- according to the law.

But yeah, I agree...she got the publicity she was after...only a matter of (brief) time before she's doing Playboy/Penthouse spreads :boobies: ...then onto bigger and better action flics! :nannerf1:

THey could sell way more yearbooks to the public/dirty old men if they left the pic in.
Wrap it in plastic, slap a hefty "Taboo" price tag on it...good as gold!

Oh...I forgot...it's a government organization...no wonder they screwed it up! lol!

Yeah not really appropriate for a HS year book but nothing too scandalous

But really I can see her working at a strip club in the very near future trying to make her dream come true to become a porn star or something...

How is it not an appropriate outfit? If this was a costume for a school play, and she was in the cast picture, would this be an issue? Of course not.

Game, Set, Match, Me.

(and personally, I think she's a pretty girl and it's a very nice picture of her)

Too much exposed shoulder and don't skirts have to be at knee level or something?? I figure if she wore that outfit at school she would be sent home and told to change.

Yeah if they were doing a play and thats her costume then maybe that photo would be in but I kinda doubt that

I'm not saying she looks really bad just not what you'd see in a public school yearbook......oh yeah and her eyes are saying take me....take me now i've been a very naughty, NAUGHTY girl!!
