Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Since I made threads for Dragon Age: Inquisition and Mass Effect: Andromeda, I figured I would keep the tradition going. Dragon Age: The Veilguard (formerly Dreadwolf) will be the next entry in the popular Dragon Age series.

Some highlights from article above:
Gameplay reveal June 11th with 15 minutes of footage
Seven party members total, two of whom will travel with you during the game (like in Mass Effect) as opposed to three party members which has been the standard in previous entries in series.
Single player game, not live service as was rumored at one point

Bioware definitely needs a win with this one. Cautiously optimistic and hope Dragon Age: The Veilguard turns out well.

Coming off two game disasters with Andromeda and Anthem and following a terrible marvel-tier trailer, Dragon Age fans are 100% justified in being dissatisfied.

  • To truly appreciate Dragon Age: The Veilguard, playing the previous games and DLCs is essential due to interconnected stories and recurring characters.
  • The complexity of Dragon Age lore may be overwhelming for newcomers, as plot summaries and reading up on the lore may not provide enough context.
  • BioWare's decision to maintain continuity in the Dragon Age series, rather than starting fresh for new players, adds depth and significance to player choices.

By now, you’ve probably seen the incredible 20 minutes of opening gameplay for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. In it, we are re-introduced to fan favorite returning characters like Varric, Harding, and not-so-favorites like Solas – the Dread Wolf. It’s a good thing we are getting a reintroduction as it’s been a decade since our last entry in the series

There are so many different ways this can go, and knowing the past decade's failures, or even the past few years failures of AAA gaming... I have absolutely no hope of this succeeding. The stakes are set too high after all this time.

But I am simply a victim of Bioware's post-KOTOR, post Mass Effect trilogy era. I know the hype machine doesnt deliver. -_-;

We are now less than two weeks from release. The game went gold on October 4th. Don't know when the review embargo will lift but one would think sometime next week. Previews from various professional publications have been positive but that's how the game is played with these large-scale, AAA releases. Just have to wait and see.

Review embargo lifts on Monday October 28th at 8AM PT/11AM ET.

This is encouraging:
That’s three days before Dragon Age: The Veilguard releases on October 31, Halloween, so no “day of” review drop that players are often scared of. I will also say that BioWare gave us a lot of time to review the game, two weeks, which as a reviewer who has had to jam dozens of hours of playtime into just a few days in the past, this is a welcome change.

I like that reviewers were given significant time with the game. I feel like EA would not have done that if it was a total disaster.

Fingers crossed and cautiously optimistic.
