dog owners: type of dog food you use

just got a siberian husky two weeks ago, and I was curious what people use. The brand the stores seem to be pushing is Nutro. Its been a long time since I had a dog, so I was wondering what others experiences are.

We use Purina-1 and add some canned Pedigree to it. My eight-year-old Jack Russell loves it and he is as healthy as a *****!

Its been a long time since my last dog, but I used to feed him Eukanuba too! someone pointed out that it had somewhat of a high fat content, but this doeswn't alarm me as this pup would get some god exercise. When we tried the less expensive brands, we noticed the big difference in the look of the coat, so I am leaning towards this Nutro, Eukanuba, or Science Diet.

please head my advice. stay away from any food that contains corn in any form. its a allergen to most dogs and is in about 90% of dog and cat food.

Eukanuba puppy was great when mine where small. It had a pleasing smell and it made them smell different too.

Once I was older, and could afford it, my dogs only ever ate brown rice, carrots, ground pork and beef and my leftovers. If you commit to cooking for them once a week, it works - just buy a few large plastic food storage containters (like Tupperware) and save it in the fridge for the week.

The fat from steaks and the skin from chicken are great to boil along with the rice too. Remember there is no point to low fat food for dogs!

Despite what you read, IMO, there is not a commercial dog food that comes close to providing the quality of nutrition that you get from doing ^that. You think the material that goes into making hot dogs is disgusting, read about what they use to make commercial dog food. (Yes, very often dogs and domestic *******, not to mention c50% corn filler, ash, colorants and preservatives.)

If your budget won't allow it, try to go halfway and use half commercial food and half of what I did. You will notice a difference in your dog within days: more energy, more alert, better *****, cleaner fuller coat, brighter eyes, solid and less frequent stools.

Science Diet is always touted, but then again you have to tout what you hawk at your practice as a vet...

I agree, they tout what they are told to! Isn't the calorie intake WAY more for less amounts when eating normal food as opposed to dog food?
I remember feeding my parents dog plain rice and groung beef when he was sick from ingesting acorns.

for now, I went with the Eukanuba large breed puppy food. he's a great dog, learning the potty training, and full of energy. He's a blast!

Pretty much IAMS for both my Beagle and Chiuaua. We have tryed others but had the most success with IAMS.

I think letting your dog go out and eat road **** is probably healthier than most of the brands of dog food out there.

Science Diet has been good for our dog for 10 years... A 12 year old Chow Chow..

As long as these corporations outsource their components - wheat and corn glutens from China, all bets are off !

The thing that pisses me off is that if you read the product details on the bag, it most likely will state "Made In The U.S.A."
But where are the raw materials coming from ? . . . . they don't have to disclose this information apparently.

Sort of the same thing that is going on with the pharmaceutical industries.
Last I had heard, most, if not all of the "food grade" Vitamin C is manufactured in China. Generic, as well as "Big Brand" pharmaceutical mfg corps are after the big bucks. The PRC make it awfully tempting to . . . you know the drill.

Nothing against the Chinese people, OTOH, the dictatorial regime has much to answer for :) It's never their fault !

All The best with the pupz !
