As a rigger I can tell you that it's one thing to look at a ledge, and another COMPLETELY different thing to be at the ledge. Even when you're in the grid of an arena 105' up looking down from behind the safety of the catwalk is worlds of difference from stepping over that railing, standing on a beam, and looking down that same 105' of air below you. It's easy for someone to say, "Oh, that's 6' away from a 400-foot precipice. There's nothing to worry about." I'll bet you $2 dollars that person would have a VERY different opinion if he were in that situation. I've seen many people who thought they were bad asses try to walk a beam, only to see that they weren't so tough after all.
