If you haven't seen it already you have been warned, there WILL be spoilers...

OH MY GOD! This is such a good movie! I was so happy it was not a disappointment like the prequels, I still am getting chills thinking about it!! I literally cried when Kylo Ren killed Han and at the end when Rey was standing there with Luke. This movie was AMAZING! My only slight disappointment was Kylo Ren removing his mask, I felt that was something that should've been saved for episode 9 kind of like how Darth Vader wasn't revealed until episode 6. But the rest was so good I can look past that reveal...OMG! It was great! Not enough words to describe!

I agree, it's a good movie. So good that'll I'll probably be going to see it again at least once more.

The biggest thing I like about it is how real it looks. I know there is a ton of CGI mixed in with the models we were all promised, but it looks so much better than the god awful shiny, pretty prequels.

They did well with the who's a Jedi twist. All of the promo's show Finn with the lightsaber and even fighting with it, but it's not for him, it's for Rey. Rather well done in my opinion.

A lot of the little bits helped make the film for me too. Like the two Stormtroopers stopping and backing away from Kylo Ren when he's raging in the interrogation room.

I'll admit to getting some Episode 3 flashbacks throughout the movie though. Hidden/abandoned on a desert world, rebel droid with secrets, X-Wings blowing up the super weapon. Didn't spoil it though, just made me think a lot about episode 3.

Should read "Episode 4". :)

People have actually been complaining that there are too many shades of Star Wars (or if you prefer, "A New Hope") to The Force Awakens. I didn't mind it in the slightest, I'm more than happy to believe that with something mystical and mythical as The Force (fuck you, "midi-chlorians") that these things could be cyclical.

I thought the film was a hot, steamy pile of fanwank. I enjoyed every second of it. :yoda:

I think that it is a rewriting of Episode IV, just changed the names.

We finally got our definitive answer on whether Han is the type who shoots first or not. Lucas has been for decades now trying to dismiss the idea of an "every man for himself" guy, but he did it in Episode VII, where he throw that trooper to the monster following him on the ship.

I also think that Maz Kanata is the Yoda of the film, 1000 years old, knows more than she reveals (owning Luke lightsaber is a story for another time), green, she might be related to him given the age.
Of course Luke not uttering a single word or just appearing for 30 seconds is not what we were expecting, but they want something for Episode VIII.
The lightsaber battles are not as spectacular as the prequels, Duel of the fates from Episode I, Yoda vs Dooku in Clones, or Obi-Wan vs Anakin in Sith, but you've got to give them that they are believable, no super jumps or spectacular cartwheels, but the unbelievable stuff is how Rey, a scavenger could face a trained Dark side knight like Kylo Ren.
Of course, his fate is uncertain at the end of the movie, but we got to see him lose him temper, we got to know him, I wished that Lucas did the same with Count Dooku in clones, he had the potential for so much more.
Good Bye Harrison Ford.

In Episode VIII, Rey starts her Jedi training by saying she can't possibly lift an X-Wing fighter from the bottom of a swamp. After progressing her training as a Jedi she decides to leave half way through to go and rescue her friends from a predicament elsewhere.

Episode IX the Jedi's attack and destroy yet another planet sized destructive weapon (once the force field has been successfully deactivated of course) and live happily ever after.

Seriously the Force Awakens was superb if not "similar" in plot to the original. Han Solo is technically not dead. He fell off a foot bridge, his body has yet to be found............ and in my eyes is therefore MIA.

They are not stupid, the original Star Wars is the most popular one, Empire might be the best sequel ever, the one that other are to be judged by, so they recreated the formula and even brought Lawrence Kasdan, the guy who wrote Empire.
I think that this movie is so good that it deserves to beat Avatar.

As for Han falling, now all the Expanded Universe is another timeline, but they could revive him like they did with Bobba Fett and Darth Maul, but to the in-movies universe, I think that he is dead, unless they are plotting a major surprise.

I think that in Episode VIII, Luke will get to tell Rey "I am YOUR father".

Most importantly, aided by some adorable furry woodland creatures.

I think they're going to go full-bore Jacen & Jaina - Rey is going to be Ren's sister. Neither of them are ready to the point where they can know, but that embrace when Rey arrived at the Resistance base at least persuaded me that Leia knows.

Rey will turn to the dark side. We have seen her power (in the forest of Dean, rather a nice place). Kylo Ren will turn to the light and have some plastic surgery on his conk.

After watching it last night in 3D I too am more or less like most in here. CGI was good, much better than Ep II and Ep III. But yeah the plot lines are almost exact to Ep IV. The biggest name in the movie Harrison Ford's character dies just like Sir Alex Guinness aka Obi-Wan (lightsaber through chest and fell how many miles, no one can survive that)...as well as aforementioned similarities between Luke and Rey, more droids with secrets, blowing up of another death star......

Overall it was good but not great, they didn't kill the franchise but at the end of the day it wasn't a necessary movie. Just a money making exercise.
Now to wait for Ep VIII and the Rey I am your father line and watching her lose a part of a limb after a fight with her Brother.......

A good Star Wars. Not as good as episode 4,5 & 6 but much better than 1, 2 & 3
I like the fact that one of the main bad guys is just a little prick with a light-saber (but he's not able to wield it as a decent Jedi would).

How many times will it take for the Empire/First Order to realise that the tactic of creating a weapon of mass destruction on a planetary scale doesn't work? Answers on a postcard please.
