I prefer the raw fish. Perhaps it makes me think of the other fishy smelling/tasting things I'm missing out on, maybe it's because I'm too lazy to cook the damn ichthyoid.
I spent probably 8 years total in Okinawa and on Mainland Japan as a military brat. And my parents would always take us outside the base to the real Japanese restaurants...not even the Americanized ones i mean the real Japanese ones. We went to a couple of sushi places where the cooks made sushi in the middle and they put it on a conveyor belt that would rotate around like a bar style seating. I would always have the ones with veggies like cucumber. My mom who is Asian has been eating all kinds of fish (cooked of course) growing up but when she tried the raw uncooked sushi this one time she got sick for like three days lol.
Both, depends on what I'm craving. It's hard to beat a good plate of fish and chips, unless it's a spicy tuna roll or a smoked salmon roll. There's a sushi place down the road that serves a Philadelphia roll that's pretty damn tasty.
