Convicted Felon Donald Trump’s Second Presidency

Breaking with its allies and the Free World, the US votes with Russia and North Korea against a UN resolution condemning Russia's
invasion of Ukraine, clearly a move to appease Putin. The vote was not only unconscionable and unforgivable, it was also unnecessarily stupid.

If one wanted to make the argument that the US didn't want to risk derailing peace negotiations by angering Putin with its vote,
they could have achieved that by simply abstaining. Even China, a close Russian ally, didn't vote wiith Russia on this resolution.
They tactfully abstained, preferring to remain neutral, presumably [and ironically] so as not to upset their no. 1 trading partner, the United States.

Ultimately, with its pro-Russian vote, a weak and capitulating US humiliated itself on the world stage by aligning with Russia,
essentially condoning Putin's attempted annexation of its neighbor.

I look forward to the Midterms. Thy better will be the biggest example of voters realizing their errors in history. But these 24 months are going to be a rough, rough stretch.

I really hope so. People have to accept reality sooner or later. I just wonder if Bernie was given a chance and we got a radical liberal over a radical conservative, we wouldn't be in this mess.

Despite his tough guy act, Trump has and will suck up and capitulate to individuals that intimidate him.
It is clear that there are indeed 2 people in the world that check that box - Putin and Musk, each of which compels Trump to yield and submit.
Regarding Putin, Trump is intimidated by his nuclear arsenal and strongman persona. When it comes to Musk, he's simply in awe of Elon's IQ.

In both cases, Trump's profound feelings of inferiority to these men have cause him to essentially relinquish control, allowing both Putin and Musk
to operate without resistance.

Canada hits US with retaliatory tariffs after warning of 'existential threat'
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c89ye749nxvo

So it happened today. You can't understate how this is affecting Canada with so many people and industries at risk.
And it's not just Canada and Mexico - US/world markets are also dropping in response, so the effect is global. So just imagine what the effects are going to be when those tariffs start applying to the rest of the world.

What's important is that these countries do retaliate and show that these stupid acts screw over Americans. It won't take 2 years for those effects to be felt, so you can bet they will affect the midterms.

"On the verge"???
I'd say it's already happened a while ago.. like November 5, 2024.
The US still had some respect on November 5th. Trump’s full-on Putin love affair was not yet in full force and bullying allies was not anticipated.

Speaking of which: Where are the users who were gloating on the 6th and beyond?

I look forward to the Midterms. Thy better will be the biggest example of voters realizing their errors in history. But these 24 months are going to be a rough, rough stretch.
The 2026 elections will be like Trump’s last midterms (2018) when the Dems gained 41 House seats in the ‘Blue Wave’ election. Republicans are already getting some backlash to Trump’s policies. House members are being told to stop having in-person town halls due to upset constituents.

As for economics:
The Wall Street Journal (a conservative view point) previously called the Mexico-Canada tariffs the “dumbest” in history. I read an oped there this morning where they stated “we may understated the point.”

About Zelensky having to bow and say thank you:

The Ukraine are the only country in history giving up all their nuclear weapons - for a peace guaranteed by the USA, Ruissia and Great 'Britain. If the USA really follow through of betraying their own guarantee, they will lose much more than the trust of one country. The USA are raciong into a full-on economic and strategic partnership conflict, now wit Canada, Europe, Mexico, but will this isolationist approach be any good?

He's backtracked on the Canadian threat too.

This is his MO:

1) Make an asinine threat
2) Backtrack on the threat at the last second when the other party negotiates with him / he realizes how dumb a move it is
3) Claim victory by saying he "made a deal"

...and here we go again:

Tariffs on cars from Mexico and Canada delayed by one month
https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/05/business/tariffs-autos-mexico-canada-paused/index.html

You can bet there will be a similar backtracking on the 10% on energy, especially if Ford shuts off power exports.

When you keep giving exemptions - as the saying goes "It's no longer an exception, it's the rule".

This is huge. He may have gotten the trifecta of the executive, legislative and judiciary branches, but this shows that just a month in, the latter is willing to go against him and quash his executive orders.

Supreme Court rejects Trump administration's bid to avoid paying USAID contractors
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/su...rations-bid-avoid-paying-usaid-con-rcna194230
The Supreme Court on Wednesday backed a federal judge's power to order the Trump administration to pay $2 billion to U.S. Agency for International Development contractors but did not require immediate payment.

In doing so, the court on a 5-4 vote rejected an emergency application filed by the Justice Department after U.S. District Judge Amir Ali issued a series of rulings demanding the government unfreeze funds that President Donald Trump put on hold with an executive order.

Even I assumed that SCOTUS would go along with anything he says, but it's nice to see them have some backbone.

Sorry to sound bitter and cynical, but ... that's not gonna happen. He helped fuel the fire of a violent riot on Jan. 6. A lot of the people in this country have a learning disorder, an issue with moral intelligence.

Trump's campaign slogan of "America first" could easily lead to America alone.
Burning bridges by damaging long held relationships with foreign partners is not only foolish, it's existentially dangerous.

If the US were to be attacked right now, who's really going want to stand with this guy, a belligerent bully who has disrespected
his country's closest allies while cozying up to its [supposed] mutual adversary.

Look at the 2018 midterms. When the shit starts hitting consumer wallets (and 401(k)s), Trump and the Republicans will learn Biden’s lesson. If the Republicans continue at their current pace, it will be another bloodbath in November 2026.

Instead of a single swing vote at SCOTUS there is now a 2-of-3 scenario. To get any left or center opinions a party needs to get two votes from Roberts, Kavanaugh, and Barrett. Those three will be the deciding votes for the foreseeable future.
