It's always (!) better to buy parts seperately and build the computer yourself or let someone you know handle that. You usually save 10 to 20 % that way. However, the ingredients look ok, the price is alright too I guess.
But remember:
At the moment RAM is really cheap, so it's a good time to buy that now.
New CPUs are always overpriced. If you compare $ per MHz you'll probably see that. On the other hand, since you want to play games, it's not a bad idea to invest something in a good CPU.
The motherboard is new to me, never heard of it :dunno:

I guess (without checking any retailers right now) you could get the same thing for 100 bucks less (no service inlcuded). But if you need the service... it should be alright.

550 * 1.86 = 1023 American dollars

i'm not an expert on this, but it seems like a fair deal.

It seems like a reasonable deal. You may want to put more thought into your video card though. A quick processor and RAM are important, but it's the video card that really makes it all come together (for gaming purposes). A good video card is kinda like adding a processor to your computer, it takes a nice load off it. My thoughts are the system you stated sounds good (assuming its not used), but bump up the video card. And if your interested in better sound, consider a sound card upgrade as well.
Enjoy!!! :hatsoff:

Not a bad deal at all, though id prefer a 256mb video card, i have a 256mb Nvidia card in an old 1.4ghz PC and all my games run sweet.

i concur..... a 128 MB video card won't cut it.

dont worry about the sound card....take that money and put it into the graphics card

Looks good so far, but you definitely need to make sure you are getting a good video card. Just a generic 128mb isnt gonna cut it. Right now, top of the like would either be an ATI Radeon x800XT, or an Nvidia geforce fx 6800. Both of those would cost about $450-500 USD. If you don't want to spend that much, you can get a Radeon 9800 pro for about 300.

About HL2, I have an Athlon 2700+ processor and a radeon 9600 pro (128mb) with 1gb ram, and it runs great. details on high as well. The system you are gonna buy, with at least a 9800 pro (256mb) will be able to run it flawlessly at its highest settings.

ok what about this one....

hp tower
amd 3200 64 bit processor
512 ram
256mb Geforce 5500 graphics card
DVD writer
sound blaster 6.1

price- £600

if it says amd 3200 processor does this mean 3.2ghz?
