Computer Issue

I need a computer expert. I have 2 programs running at Startup even after I shut them off using the Windows Configuration Utility and save my settings. In the list of Startup programs they say: "agejerevaf" and"rfaorvud". I tried Googling these 2 items but Google didn't have anything, they just thought I misspelled the words. I don't know how to get rid of these 2 items.

I'm sure one of the ace board hacks can share something with you on this (if you can trust them). I'm no expert and I can probably offer the long/wrong way to go about it...

Do you have anymore details....like all the places you physically observe these being located...search results, etc.

He needs to have an idea of what it is first before he burns a bunch of time loading things onto his computer..right? And depending on what it is it, MWB may not even help.

try downloading a trial version of norton or something similiar. if it's maleware, it should detect and remove it. if not, worse comes to worse, back up all your files and restore your system to it's factory settings. that should definitely solve the issue.

It got rid of most of my problems except "agejerevaf". That one is still there! I even downloaded a program called Startup Guard and that program didn't solve the problem either. My computer won't let me do a System Restore either.

This might work

Try and locate the .exe or .dll file by doing a file search on your computer.

If the search finds it, keep the window open where you can see the file.

Next press Ctrl, Alt, Delete to bring up Windows Task Manager, & under the process tab see if the file name you mentioned is running in the list.

If it is running, click on it once & end its process with the icon at the bottom right "End Process" (Go to last step)

If the process is not in the list & is not a running process just delete it as explained below

Go back to your window with the found file & then delete it to the trash can or file shred it if you have a file shredder. If you deleted it to your trashcan make sure you empty your trash can too

Hope it helps ;)

Going that route you'd want to make sure system restore is turned off and check msconfig to see if it or a component needs to be stopped there as well then restart.

But again, I would say do your best to research what it is first...Assuming it's bad for you and your computer..that is the key to determining how to get rid of it for good if you can.

It's on your system and if it's there for the wrong reasons your stuff is already compromised. So you may as well just focus on finding out what it is more so than trying this or that to get rid of it beforehand.

You did not give enough information.

If it is not malware you can go to start < run, or if it is windows 7 the search field at the bottom of start button. Type in Msconfig and open the system configuration utility. < go to the Startup tab. From there turn off whatever you don’t want to start on windows boot up. Reboot computer.

If it is malware
Run Rkill http://download.cnet.com/RKill/3000-8022_4-11464676.html
Which basically turns off any unknown process running on your computer (AKA spyware)

Once it is turned off you can then remove it by using Malwarbytes http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
Reboot computer and see if it gone for good.

Mot sure if this will help, but one place to look is the registry. Programs that run at startup can be found here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Deleting items from the registry can really screw up your machine, so be careful. I recommend backing up the entire registry before making any changes.

To get to the registry, start menu>run. Type "regedit", no quotes.

To backup the registry, right click on "My Computer" on the left, and select export. Save the file to a desired location.

Hope this helps.
