WASHINGTON - A contract employee at a nuclear material cleanup site in Tennessee was charged Thursday with allegedly stealing classified data about enriching uranium to sell to foreign governments, law enforcement officials said.

The man, identified as Roy Lynn Oakley, 67, of Roane County, Tenn., instead sold the sensitive material to undercover FBI agents, said two officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because the arrest had not yet been publicly announced.


Well, at least he got caught. But I guess in a way you can't blame the guy. He probably worked for peanuts all his life, and thought he could get enough money to retire on. Not that I'd want our nuclear secrets in the hands of a foreign government...but I can easily see why he attempted it.

If he was a disgruntled employee and was going to go that route, I would hope that at least he would just load up thousands of dollars of normal tools and supplies or just embezzle some money somewhere instead of selling classified secrets.

I heard he was going to try to sell actual equipment to enrich uranium also.Nuclear secrets really ain't no big deal these days its the equipment.So many countries have the knowledge now that none of it is that hard for any of them to get.

I know, but then again you never know what new thing somebody might have come up with. Perhaps some day they will invent a reasonable way of creating weapons grade plutonium or uranium without huge centrifuges. The hardest part of making a nuclear bomb isn't the knowledge because there are a lot of people that know how to do it; it's getting the actual material. When I was talking about equipment I mean like everyday power tools and such.

Perhaps some day they will invent a reasonable way of creating weapons grade plutonium or uranium without huge centrifuges. I knew what you meant,I was just pointing out what you also just said its the equip and materials thats hard to get.He wasn't going to get much though for a black and decker drill lol.

I was sick all day and just saw it on the news. The Manhattan Project was started here, so it's amazing a facility with such important credentials has such a low security score. It proves nothing is safe and they just make a big deal out of the few areas with high security as though it's just as high everywhere else.

The whole strategy of Homeland Security was so people would continue to travel by air thinking it was under scrutiny all the time. And maybe it is? But I don't think the same group responsible for 9/11 will try to do that exact same thing again. Watching terrorists in movies seems to provide enough alternatives.

You have to say this in favor of the terrorists, they're extremely innovative...I agree with you, they'd be fools to try that again.
