Comment from the article:
How about...the internet is now sentient?
That's right. Millions of silicon processors and millions more data storage and analytical devices have been powered up and online for more than 15yrs now. It is now known that a 'darknet' of even more devices is intermittently connected to our visible internet. It has now gained sentience, no surprise really, we've been asking it to 'think' for us for at least the last 10yrs. Silicon is the closest element in its group to Carbon (the element our lifeform is based around) and has been long surmised to support a kind of 'life' just not as we know it.
It is testing us. Those who pass, well, who knows what happens to them? They started out as phenomenally smart and secretive people anyway..who's to say that they've not been lured to a coded location and eliminated by machine means? Maybe they're the only ones smart enough to figure out that the internet has become sentient AND is able to manifest itself in the physical world? Hold on, that's my door...
