China to curb 'overly entertaining' reality TV

China plans to limit reality TV shows and other light entertainment fare shown on satellite television stations as part of a drive to wrest back Communist Party control over cultural industries that are fueling more independent viewpoints.

The order from the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, known as SARFT, refers to shows that are vulgar or "overly entertaining." It singles out programs dealing with marital troubles and matchmaking, talent shows, game shows, variety shows, talk shows and reality programming.

Such shows must be largely phased out by the beginning of next year by the country's 34 satellite TV stations, to be replaced with news and cultural programming. The order also bans viewership surveys and the use of ratings as the sole criteria for whether to broadcast a particular show.

There is always more than one way to get information. Like I said it'll push it underground because there's ways around everything. Absolutes are hard to prove and typically not 100% accurate.


Just likes there's ways for them to get around censored versions of google etc... The problem though is it'll deny easy access to people who don't' put in the time and risk to hack or circumvent governmental protocols.

I wish the United States would ban reality TV. If this is for real, and I don't see why I wouldn't be, I may move to China, as it seems that would be the only way to evade this crap genre of television.

I hate being to political on here because everyone has a view point and it usually leads to agreements and flame wars, but I am going to have to on this one. Ok Americans, wake the hell up. We should absolutely have nothing to do with chime. We should not be importing a god damn thing from then. Fucking jimmy carter tried to open up trade with China to indexer get rid of communism. Guess what, its been almost 40 years and it hasn't worked. The only thing that has occurred is job loss and shitty quality made things. Yes, things will cost more if production is brought back to America, but damn it, that might just pull us out of this depression. Clinton and that fucked up NAFTA coupled with the late 70's early 80's initiative to bring capitalism to China has done nothing but ruined america. Fuck these companies who have these politicians in their back pocket.
