Chelsea Watts, a Malta High School graduate of 2003, continues to pursue her career in acting and has 13 credits on her television and big screen career including 2019's "Blue Bloods' and "The Enemy Within."

Though she currently lives in New York and her family lives in various parts of the state, Malta-born actress Chelsea Watts fondly remembers the town of her birth and it pushes her on as she graces television sets around the world.

"I would like to let the town of Malta know that I have never forgotten where I came from," Watts told the PCN. "Even sometimes when I am in this city and it feels stressful to me or when things happen, like an audition doesn't go well, I just look up at the sky and remember that where I come from is Big Sky Country."

Watts was born in Malta to Paige (Simanton) Juliano and Eugene Watts.

Soon after she was born, the family moved to North Carolina while her father served in the military. Watts and her mother moved back to Malta while he was stationed overseas; Chelsea was in second grade.

The stay would be short because the family would move to California during Chelsea's third-grade year. The family would reside in the golden state up until the middle of Chelsea's sophomore year of high school.

Even though they didn't reside in Malta, Watts' family remained connected to the community, visiting family here during the summer and during school breaks throughout the year.

"My family had a farm about five miles outside of town," Watts said. "I always had a connection with Malta, but I didn't have friends there (during the years she was away), it was just me, my cousins, and my family."

Watts returned to Malta her sophomore year to attend Malta High School, living with her grandparents Tim Simanton and Joanie Simanton.

"It was the best thing that ever happened to me," Watts said of moving back to Malta. "I was on a totally different trajectory in California."

Watts went on to explain that because the schools were bigger in her town in California, kids generally were limited to what electives and groups they could join. Watts was on her way to becoming a volleyball player or a scientist.

"I was taking all of these AP Science classes and my plan was to become an aeronautical engineer, I wanted to go to UCLA, I wanted to study aerodynamics and engines," Watts said. "I had this idea of making engines with renewable energy."

She also had aspirations to become a professional volleyball player.

Between sports and academics, performing arts took a back seat. Still, Watts remembered the joys of singing in choir in junior high, something she had missed out on during her freshman year.

"When I moved to Malta, some of the things I had been studying in California weren't readily available," Watts said.

Watts continued playing volleyball, track and field, and even tried cross country. She was able to sing in the choir, play instruments in the band and participate in Speech and Drama.

"Then, of course, I had a chance to be in school plays," Watts said. "Not only be in them, but I also got to help with casting."

Watts also had the chance to pick plays and musicals that were put on at Malta high school under the watchful eye and direction of former MHS Superintendent John Roberts. Watts chose Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream as one of her earliest plays.

"My grandma and I made the costumes," Watts said. "I helped make the sets."

In addition to acting and putting together school plays, Watts also would participate in and win Malta High School's Junior Miss Pageant in 2003. She would go on to win the State Junior Miss that year and competed in the national pageant. She won the National Talent Award for her singing performance.

After Watts graduated in 2003, she would go on to attend the University of Montana for two years studying Music. She earned her Bachelor's of Art in Music at Portland State University in 2007.

She began modeling in Portland, which eventually led to commercials, which led to film and television and Watts moving to New York.

Watts has played several roles on popular television shows including Blue Bloods, Power, Deception, Law & Order SVU, Bull, The Verge (as a series regular), and The Enemy Within (a recurring role).

During her time in New York, Watts gave birth to her son, Ries.

"He is a really special individual," Watts said of her ten-year-old son. "And he definitely is my greatest teacher in direct ways and indirect ways."

After doing many national commercials and guest starring in roles, Watts feels like she is ready for the next step in her career, having met with her agent a couple of weeks ago.

"I sat down with people who if we chose to work together, they would be the people submitting (clips) to major feature films in addition to the television work that I have already been doing," Watts said. "I really love this. I love acting. This is what I do and what I really want to do."

Her upcoming projects include a guest star role in Wu Tang: An American Saga, which is currently in preproduction and An American Quartet, an independent music film. Watts also has a role in High Fidelity a series featuring Zoe Kravitz.
