Changing My Mind About Iraq

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
Anybody who knows me knows that I am a total flaming liberal and damned proud of it. However, recent developments have made me rethink my "let's just get out of there" attitude about our involvement in Iraq. This week, certain democrats (and by no means not anywhere near all of them so you right-wingers please stay off of any generalized bashing, OK?) have proposed a timetable for us to bring our troops home from Iraq. We cannot do that IMO.

The justification for originally invading Iraq was based on bullshit, trumped-up lies. Bush and his ilk were bound and determined that Saddam and his henchmen were going to pay the price no matter what and, in the aftermath of 9-11, we all bought it (including liberal democrats). Now that the truth is known and American soldiers are being captured, ********, ****** and *********, insurgent ******** is worse than ever and Dubya's mantra of "stay the course" means "lie and die", extreme elements of the democratic party want to simply pull out and bring our boys home....stop the needless loss of American youth that seemingly has no end.

We cannot do that.

We took the initiative to undertake this action in Iraq against the advice of our long-time allies (except the UK and a few others). Our "go it alone" philosophy precludes us from walking away now. We must stay and find some way to bring this thing to closure....how, I have no idea. To leave now, and leave Iraq in the total chaos and anarchy that would surely ensue, makes a mockery of the deaths of all those brave, albeit ill-advised, young men who have given the ultimate sacrifice for what they think is a just and worthy cause.

It's time for republicans and democrats alike to put aside partisan politics, realize that there is no option to "cut and run" and that this job, however unjustified, must be completed. America will lose what little credibility is has left in the world of public opinion if we don't.

I don't know what the plan needs to be but somebody better be working on it pretty fucking hard right now. "Stay the course" is not a plan and neither is "cut and run". These fucking politicians better toss aside their differences and find a solution to this issue NOW.

Just my frustrated and pissed-off :2 cents:
