Change in the direction of FPS Games?

Recently 2 teaser trailers were released: "Battlefield 1" and "Call of Duty Infinite Warfare"
BF1 has 1.4 million likes & 25k dislikes, while the latter has 300K likes and almost 2 Million Dislikes
(To put that in perspective, COD is just several thousand dislikes away from "Friday")

We've seen so many sci-fi FPS these days, from Destiny to COD, and maybe this is showing that we want to see something different.
WWI hasn't been touched by current gen in any form, and I can't recall the last time there was ever a WWI FPS.

Even Far-cry went literally back to the stone age. Are gamers sick of the the sci-fi shooter and is this a sign that we want something different?

People think its trendy to complain about these games and I'm not sure why since they are obviously selling like hot cakes. And youtube.. well. It's the armpit of the internet

Monkey see, monkey do! Then monkey that disliked goes and buys it :p

It's a nice change of pace. I like the idea of dogfighting in those bi planes but I'm afraid it's going to be too over the top.

Whatever interest in WWI games this generates will be fleeting IMO. For the same reason there's not a Battlefield: Gettysburg or a Call of Duty: Colonial Warfare.

Im actually liking the COD Infinite War trailer.

I thought FPSs got stale and tired after Doom, and haven't really went anywhere after all this time. When I do like one of them it's because it has some quirky feature or setting to it like Borderlands, and not because of any actual FPS gameplay.

I never got into FPS games. Just never saw the appeal.

Honestly, I'm not a huge FPS fan either, since there are so many "clones" out there, the games felt too similar. But I like playing the occasional one, especially if there's something new (As mentioned, Borderlands is a good example). Which is why I was happy to see the difference in reception between the 2 trailers. Recent FPS were all about Sci-Fi, whether it was COD or Destiny. So WWI is totally refreshing, with old school tanks, trench warfare, modern horseback battles, biplanes.
Plus I don't know if it was the setting, but I got goosebumps at the end of the BF1 trailer while the COD:IW... I really was a little bored since it felt so familiar. And having played since the WWII games, I can't help thinking "How is this COD?"

Who knows? If BF1 does well, maybe COD & MOH will go back to their roots? And isn't the historical setting the whole appeal of Assassin's Creed?
A little over the top can be fine, since this probably isn't going for historical accuracy. Remember the movie Flyboys? That could be fun.

How about those zeppelins? Seriously, goosebumps.
