I never got into FPS games. Just never saw the appeal.
Honestly, I'm not a huge FPS fan either, since there are so many "clones" out there, the games felt too similar. But I like playing the occasional one, especially if there's something new (As mentioned, Borderlands is a good example). Which is why I was happy to see the difference in reception between the 2 trailers. Recent FPS were all about Sci-Fi, whether it was COD or Destiny. So WWI is totally refreshing, with old school tanks, trench warfare, modern horseback battles, biplanes.
Plus I don't know if it was the setting, but I got goosebumps at the end of the BF1 trailer while the COD:IW... I really was a little bored since it felt so familiar. And having played since the WWII games, I can't help thinking "How is this COD?"
It's a nice change of pace. I like the idea of dogfighting in those bi planes but I'm afraid it's going to be too over the top.
Whatever interest in WWI games this generates will be fleeting IMO. For the same reason there's not a Battlefield: Gettysburg or a Call of Duty: Colonial Warfare..
Who knows? If BF1 does well, maybe COD & MOH will go back to their roots? And isn't the historical setting the whole appeal of Assassin's Creed?
A little over the top can be fine, since this probably isn't going for historical accuracy. Remember the movie Flyboys? That could be fun.
How about those zeppelins? Seriously, goosebumps.
