Casinos and the ederly

There's currently a big controversy going on in the area where I live.
Some big name casnios are about to move in to supposedly "re-develop" the area. There are many that are against this. Its almost split down the middle.
I'm not sure how I feel about it.
I've seen what they can do to the outside perimeter of many cities.
Pawn shops, hookers, crime increases..its not a pretty sight.
Yes, they do bring in money..but to the casinos only. There are no real winners..just the casinos.
The ederly will take their buses to the casinos and sit at their favorite machines all day, sipping on ginger ale.
Now, they don't even pull the lever with the new machines...they just press a big attractive button. Oh...joy!
Is this the direction they should go? Do the ederly have nothing better to do with their time? They sit and stare at the rotating wheels on the screen and say a silent prayer that "three cherries" will appear. If they can only hit it one time...they would be able to help their grand-**** with college.
The slots seem to ********* their players with all the colors and lights and sounds. Just as they are designed to do.
Many people claim that many businesses will crop up around the casino land. Good places like photo-huts, fast food, sovenier shops and theatres.
But the casinos don't want their customers to actually leave the casinos at all....they will provide everything inside, I'm sure.
I think it was Bono that once said, "Casinos are the new cathedrals". I agree.
