Iraq is different from Afghanistan. The Americans and N.A.T.O. have a reason to be in Afghanistan, and that is to flush out the terrorist group that attacked American soil. You had every right to invade and take them out, and now that you are there you can help rebuild the country, just like what you did to Japan and Germany after WWII. like it's going to make any difference? first of all terrorism is not a threat to national security... well, OK, that depends on how you define security. It's on the same level as say, people ******* to death while eating. a few thousand people maybe, it's a ***** risk, it's not anything that is going to seriously effect the country. I'd be more worried about your wife getting pissed off at you and chopping off your dick, it's a lot more likely to happen than for you to be attacked by foreign terrorists.

The news were ripe with terrorist attacks prior to the wars? The whole argument that the wars have stopped terrorist attacks reminds me of the rock that keeps the tigers away (I'm selling one, by the way. PM me your bid). Besides, if they want to cause dissent, damage the economy and **** Americans, they seem to be doing a pretty good job as it is.

The kind of terrorism that a war in Iraq and Afghanistan could stop is next to insignificant. You can't target an infra-structure that doesn't exist or isn't used, which is exactly what conventional warfare is designed for.

I don't recall ever supporting staying in Iraq, now did I? By attacking Afghanistan, N.A.T.O. removed a terrorist organization from power. They may not like it, but that doesn't matter. They don't have the same power that they used to, and that's because we went in there and kicked them out. I'm not talking about Iraq, I'm talking about Afghanistan. I'm talking about the place that actually deserved to be liberated from their governement. They are better off now because N.A.T.O. went in, trust me. I don't give two shits about Iraq, because I've never served in Iraq and I never will. But Afghanistan is a worthy cause, irregardless of what anyone is going to tell you.

No, the US was attacked by a terrorist group that was supported by that country. Al Qaeda is not the Taliban (even though I'm not too fond of them either).

There's also a big difference between Germany + Japan and Afghanistan. Both Germany and Japan were ruined nations by the time the war was over, but both nations had a stable government and a decent infrastructure before the war (even though the infrastructure was partly destroyed afterwards) and a people willing to rebuild after the war (& in the case of Western Germany a big financial input).

Afghanistan cannot be compared to these countries. It hardly has any infrastructure (needed to reach the more secluded spots of the country) had no decent government before the war (unless you count the Taliban & the Mujahedin, which were nothing more than independent warlords) and all the people want is to be left alone.

Why are people so obsessed with "getting Bin Laden" (not directed towards anyone in particular)? It won't stop attacks, it won't give any worthwhile intel. He's a figurehead, making him a martyr will do nothing. Terrorism does not operate as a structured hierarchical organization, so taking down the leader will at best disorganize a couple of cells. Yeah, okay, I get it; people want *****, but going on a manhunt every time some nut sends in a tape with vague threats is a waste of effort. He will just be replaced and we are back where we started.
