It works for his music. Niel Young has a fucked up voice, so does Joe Walsh, and if they sang for someone else...probably wouldn't work. But it does, for their style of music, and song writing.

Yes. Fair guitar player, decent singer, very good song writer.
Meh. I remember in a Rolling Stone caricature not too long ago they showed John Cougar looking over Springsteen's shoulder looking over Bob Dylan's shoulder. Pretty sure his style is based on the Bob Dylan blueprint.
