I'd take Roy. I remember him playing and always getting the better of the Penguins and I always liked him when he was in Colorado, plus the guy didn't take any shit either. He loved to fight the other goalies and never backed down.

However, if I could choose anyone, I'd pick Vladislav Tretiak.

Jeez. Brodeur is getting no love. May I remind you he has more shutouts, better GAA and better save percentage?

On the other hand, Roy has 3 Conn Smythes. Brodeur has 0.

Damn, this surprises me. Look at some stats, people:

# Youngest goaltender to win 300 regular-season games: Martin Brodeur (age 29 yrs., 7 mos.)
# Youngest goaltender to win 400 regular-season games: Martin Brodeur (age 31 yrs., 10 mos.)
# Youngest goaltender to win 500 regular-season games: Martin Brodeur (age 35 yrs., 6 mos.)
# Youngest goaltender to win 600 regular-season games: Martin Brodeur (age 37 yrs., 11 mos.)

Brodeur is amazing. He's like Roy without the princess attitude (or the distracting head jerks).

Knowing all that, it's still a hard choice. I think, overall, I'd pick Brodeur during his peak (which is long past, he needs to retire).

Brodeur has better stats in certain categories because he has played his whole career on Jersey, a team that revolves entirely around defensive play, their whole game plan for years has been to get ahead then play as obnoxiously defensively as possible. Brodeur is very good but playing for Jersey has definitely inflated his stats.

Patrick Roy is retired, Martin Brodeur is in the twilight of his career.

In their prime i would take Brodeur. Better big game goalie, more decorated and a better liked teamate overall.

Roy played on stacked Colorado teams. Should we hold that against him?

Brodeur: 11 seasons playing 70 or more games.
Roy: 0

Brodeur Career GAA: 2.20
Roy: 2.54

Brodeur career Save %: .914
Roy: .910

Brodeur career shutouts: 100
Roy: 66

Brodeur 40+ win seasons: 7
Roy: 1 (2000/01 Avs - one of the best teams ever assembled)

Brodeur Vezina Trophies: 4
Roy: 3

Geeze, when you put it like that, I'll take Grant Fuhr.

i think alot of Patrick Roy's achievements after he went to Colorado were a result of longevity more than it was consistency. Marty Brodeur was always a very consistent player in his prime

I was going to include him, Jim Carey and Tim Cheveldae but didn't want to stack the poll against Roy.

Understandable. But Fuhr was a fucking beast in net, too.

Still, I'm sticking with Brodeur. His consistency (as stated a couple posts above) was exceptional.
