best metal bassist

im going with, and ending with cliff burton. we share a bday for fucks sake...

Geezer Butler. Some of the greatest basslines in popular music were recorded by him, AND he plays with his fingers instead of cheating with a pick.

CLIFF BURTON!!!!!......

Is what I would instantly yell if I was an unbearable Metallica fan who thinks that they're just the bee's knees and no body else even comes close. Luckily, I'm not one of those people. I'll go with Troy Sanders from Mastodon. I'm sure you could find "better" bassists, but he's more than adequate, and my favorite in terms of how he approaches sludge.

Justin Chancellor from Tool. Yeah, he plays a lot with the pick and doesn't do those fast shredding solos at all but I don't care. Shredding alone is far from being the single determining factor (or even the most important) in how good a player is. Playing in non-standard time signatures, using interesting rhythmic elements and generally just making it sound damn good trumps that.

Justin Chacellor from Tool or Steve Harris from Maiden for me.

I'll give some mention to Geezer and Cliff too. Also Trujillo is a bad ass bassist as well. Bill Gould from Faith No More has a distinct sound that I'm fond of.

persona non grata
I don´t know if she´s the best, but there´s nothing cooler than a cute asian chick playing extreme metal. So my vote goes to Doris Yeh.

I am a failure to the Korean side of my family
I would say Les Claypool would be up there, but does he really play metal?

I'd say legends like Steve Harris, Lemmy or Cliff Burton are considered by their peers to be (or have been) amongst the greatest of 'em all, so I guess they really are/were pretty good. But I'd still go for another one, who is most certainly not even near the best, but his sheer power and dirty play make him one of my favorite Metal bass players: Tom Angelripper.

Steve Harris, mofo plays with just two fingers, no pick. What a beast. Let me say that Les Claypool is the predecessor of Jaco, not metal players, but masters of the bass.
