becoming not a noob

when do you stop being a noob, and start being a true blue freeones horndog? certain amount of posts and/or reps?

IMO a noob is no longer a noob when he proves himself by content of posts, content of galleries, or his overall attitude. Some say its post numbers, I say its one members perception of another. Currently Hyrdoslam has less than twenty posts but I think of him as a member, not a noob. So it really depends on others opinions:2 cents:

Some members on the board are quick to jump on newer members when they make a mistake or re-post something.
I bet I've read "next time try a search" a thousand times.
Thinking back I can remember being a newbie and being so nervous and anxious to get posting.
I had a hundred and one questions and things I wanted to say.
So much so that my brain was running a mile a minute, so I too forgot the all mighty search.
I tend to stay away from calling newbies n00bs.
It can really discourage newer members from returning to the forum.
It promotes a feeling of being ganged up on by the higher rep power members.
It wasn't so long ago that most of the now predominant members here were newbies themselves (myself included).
A n00b to me is a member who refuses to grow within the board. One that posts just to post. They are easy to spot :2 cents:

 Wow! I'm honored! Thanks a lot for the compliment, americanharley, I'll ***** to that :glugglug: And thanks to all the members that help us "new guys" feel welcomed here!
Now watch, as I get transformed into the worst member ever and leave americanharley with his foot in his mouth...:1orglaugh
(just kidding...i hope!)

But seriously, I do still consider myself a newbie because I feel like I'm still looking around and getting to know the place. But by golly, I'll get to know this place, even if it means I have to look at porn every single day!

I think Colonel deserves some rep for trying to limit the bullying, making-fun-of-the-new-guy mentality. That's why Colonel is a mod. You don't get too many mods making fun of newbies. They realize that newbies are as precious as everyone else.

Fox
Thanks, Fox.
I don't see much use in "making-fun-of-the-new-guy". I understand that seeing duplicate posts is annoying and the occasional :wtf: thread leaves us scratching our heads sometimes, but if it means that the newbies learn how to post and use the board with a little bit more confidence then I'm all for it and I'll put up with the re-posts and the occasional dumb threads.

Mods try to promote an atmosphere where all members feel welcome. At times it may seem that we are heavy handed, but it's a lot easier to stop things before they get out of hand. Like my momma used to say "it's a lot easier to open a can of whoop ass, than trying to close a can of whoop ass".

No problem. And if you do end up being the worst member ever, then I'll have to hunt you down and run over your head with my Harley:rofl:

Member, you member...
I only belong to one other forum, but let me tell you, when I first started posting it was weird, because it's not an adult oriented (as in XXX) site, so I had to kind of watch what I posted. I became comfortable with the others and even though it's a small community, it's still fun.
What I'm trying to get across is, just follow the rules set down by the admin and have fun. To avoid confrontations here, I just don't post replies, hell I don't even neg rep, so just be cool with everyone - if you can.
My first post here was to answer a Racquel Darrian question, even to the point of writing "Thank You' after my first several posts. There was some pretty funny and "entertaining" stuff going on then, too.
No such things as noobs - just Freeones members who just joined or have small post counts - if post counts determine new members, there are thousands of them here then.

I have to say it guys, I Love Freeones. hehe

thanks for your input guys, i think i get the idea of "noobs" now. oh and i didnt put this thread up so i could figure out whether or not i was a noob, i did it to try and find out a better way of acting towards noobs and treating them like true blue horndogs when theyre ready lol
