BBC News faster?

I have noticed in the past that the BBC seems faster with breaking news than the US media I wonder why?

Australia bans gay marriage roughly 6:00pm

US senate aide arrested for child porn around 4:30pm
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-25343158#sa-ns_mchannel=rss&ns_source=PublicRSS20-

When I checked Fox, and CBS news after 8:00pm neither one had either article. The Australia one I sort of understand as US media doesn't cover world news nearly as much as the BBC, but the senate aide? Chief of staff for Lamar Alexander charge with child porn and it doesn't make US news nearly four hours after the BBC?

I suspect our news media has gone even further downhill.

Edit found the 2nd story on Fox News it doesn't have a time stamp, but pretty sure it wasn't there at 8:00pm.

I watch BBC America quite a bit. The news is typically better and more objective (read, less slanted) than most of the U.S. TV news sources. There are also a few shows on BBC America that I enjoy: old Star Trek episodes, Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and a cool new "buddy" show called Atlantis (reminds me of Merlin - which I really enjoyed). Plus, having had a crush on Katty Kay for years, I watch BBC World News a lot.

But IMO, the best channel for objective news these days is Al Jazeera America. That network has the best mix of in-depth, well researched and well reported stories and they do a better job than CNBC, Bloomberg TV or Fox Business News when it comes to personal finance topics (Ali Velshi and a number of other ex-CNN people make it so). CNN, Fox, MSNBC and the other alphabet networks can't match Al Jazeera when it comes to quality news.

I have watched Al Jazeera podcasts on a few issues. They do seem to be more thorough from what I have seen. Our US media seems to focused on flash rather than indepth news.

Before BloombergTV went through a management (and philosophical) change a few years ago, I used to watch that channel ALL the time. Yeah, it mainly focused on financial news. But when they approached topics outside of finance or economics, I thought they tended to do a very good job and were balanced & objective in their approach. Depending on my schedule, about the only time I will watch BloombergTV now is in the early mornings. Betty Liu's In the Loop show is still good. But too many of the other programs have taken on the same propaganda style, slanted view of things that one sees on Fox News/Fox Business News or (P)MSNBC. IMO, CNN used to be one of the best "balanced" news networks. But its fall from grace has been incredibly dramatic. Kind of ironic that so many of the better CNN anchors have migrated over to Al Jazeera (I hear Soledad O'Brien recently joined up too!).

Both BBC America and Al Jazeera America are a bit light on financial and market news, but I really think both do a MUCH better job than the sad, show-bizzy American networks, which hire too many weak-minded, long-legged, 2nd runner up Miss America contestants (who can barely read the teleprompter - much less actually research and write a hard hitting news story).

BBC is far superior to most news providers as it doesnt have any political objectives or leanings which can skew its reporting. When I was in America I was amazing at how left or right wing the news was over there.

I have BBC America but recently U-Verse added a BBC World News channel, which shows nothing but BBC world news programming and is basically like a CNN, and since then I've been watching that 24/7. I also have Bloomberg but it's only in SD, I wish U-Verse would add the HD channel because I do enjoy their programming especially Bloomberg West which focuses on the tech industry

I'm jealous. I wish that I had the option of watching BBC World News. Al Jazeera is really good, but it would be nice to have two quality news channels. IMO, if Reuters ever launched a TV news channel, the world would be perfect.

I hear that if you jailbreak an AppleTV (or use a Roku box) you can get all sorts of foreign based channels. But I don't know enough about either device yet to cancel DirecTV (still have to find a reliable way to watch my F1 races).

BBC America airs BBC World News at 5 and 6AM by me but it was never in HD. My local PBS station airs it as well at 11:30PM. But this new BBC World News channel I got is awesome, I'm getting hard news with no bullshit or opinion like you get from the network channels

I use an XBMC plugin called world news live to watch international news. It is a collection of online streams from around the world including BBC and Al Jazeera. As long as you have a first or second gen AppleTV putting XBMC on them is as easy as booting from a flash drive. A lot of people also use a Rasberry Pi and control it with an XBMC smartphone app. I don't watch F1 so not sure on what's available.
