Agreed. Partially. I like Avril because she's hot. After watching her Live in Toronto DVD tonight for the first time I have to declare that I have a massive, olympic, crush on Avril. Huge.
And it is not because of her music or talent. She has, clearly, natural musical talent. Anyone that denies that has no fucking idea of what natural musical talent is. But Avril is poorly educated and shows absolutely no intellectual curiosity. That limits her musical potential immensely. She just won't ever be like Bono, or Radiohead, or Roger Waters, or even Paolo Nutini. She has no real intentions to improve musically. She may think she does, but she will always fall short limited by her lack of intellectual drive. She is no perfectionists either. But I rather listen to her music that actually resembles rock and it's a lot of fun to play (if you play guitar or drums) than any of Britney's tunes, or ANY hip hop and rap shit. At least she fantasizes that she's a rock star and her fans do too.
And I have that massive, olympic, crush on her. Because she's HOT, she's sweet, she's naive, she seems to have a good heart and she's like a teen just having fun. She's the high school girlfriend I never had. And I always wanted.

If she looked like Amy Winehouse, it'd be a different story. At least she gets some credit for musicianship. I think she writes at least some of her own material, and can at least passably play an instrument. No, she's not the greatest musician in history, but it's still a far cry from most of the producer-created, auto-tuned crap in pop music today.
