Avoiding Danger While Surfing for Sex

I recently got into downloading PDFs of magazines. I want to preface this by saying I wouldn't feel compelled to do this if I didn't feel ripped off by the last three issues of Playboy that I bought digitally only for the Zinio reader to act awkwardly, Zinio being incompatible with digital readers, and Playboy's refusal to allow page print outs. Not to mention, I felt screwed over to discover that Playboy has become nothing more than a published infomercial for their website rather than delivering good content to both. :2 cents:

Anyway, that nonwithstanding I have started downloading PDFs to make up for this. Last night, a relatively harmless virus was picked up by my anti-virus program. It removed it in short order before it could do any harm of any sort, but I believe it was put into place by one of the downloaded PDFs (even after I scanned them individually before I opened the files.

My question is, is there anyway to avoid getting viruses from PDF websites, or a way to safeguard against them as you download? I try to stay away from questionable websites, and most of us surf porn regularly enough to know how to identify websites that choose to do us harm. Though PDF downloading is still uncharted waters for me that I dove in way too deep way too early.

Any suggestions or help in doing this safer, or should I just scrap the idea of getting my hands on PDF files from online sources altogether? :helpme:
