Are You A Good Salesman?

I am a good salesman as long as I'm not hired as a salesman. When I get hired as a salesman I turn into a customer service representative and let them know if I don't think they need what I'm trying to sell them. Outside of doing sales work or being a salesman I am very shilly and enjoy putting effort toward recommending products. I do it here for sure when I'm enthusiastic about something like cheeseburgers.

Absolutely not. I would probably be a good salesman if I shut my pie hole about politics, or opinions of public policy, but I tend to talk to much.

I can be, but only if I give a shit about what I'm selling. I can't push something on someone, but I am more than happy to share what I'm excited about.

In my high school summer job I was consistently the top upseller. I totally knew that people were overpaying for these "upgrades", often they would be things we would be willing to give away for free. But management not only encouraged this, but they gave the top upsellers anything from cash bonuses to free trips as well as helping our employee reviews. The clientele of the business was also pretty rich, so I didn't feel bad about fleecing them - nothing was illegal and everything was spelled out. It just took a lot of extra work so most of the employees didn't try too hard. I basically got my xmas shopping done with this alone.

However, I could never do this to anyone I knew, or I would have to keep a relation with.

I think I am

I'm not that guy would could sell sand to people living in the Sahara.
But someone told me once that a good salesman is not a sales man who could sell anything to anyone but someone who, for every customer, can identify the exact product that's gonna satisfy him and sell it to him even when it's not exactly what they came for.
Because a customer to which you sold a very costly product that's not gonna satisfy them will think you scammed them but if you can identify the right product for them and sell it to them, you gain their and they'll come back to you next time they need something. And they'll tell their friends how much they're satisfied with you

Don't tell GrandMa to buy the newest Iphone that's gonna cost her $1.500 and she's never gonna understand how to use it. Tell her to buy that other ohone that's gonna cost hher $600 but is much simpler, show her how to download and use What'sApp, she'll be happy to surprise her grandchildren with a video-call and she's gonna tell how good were your advices to her friends, her hairdresser, her doctor, etc...

The problem with that is, the company you work for, and the bosses at the store you are a salesman at, don't take that noble of an attitude. You are there to make THEIR bottom line bigger, and they don't care as much about humanity, as You Might. In todays day and age, doing the right thing, is far less important then $$$$$.

But at least you know better.

I'd buy from you. I like smart, knowledgeable salespeople who treat the customer with respect. I respond very negatively to high pressure and sales games.

I know. That's why I choosed noit to become a salesman.
And I guess that mindset is also what brought me not to be lawyer : I wouldn't be able to defend someone who's guilty and pretends he is not. I wouldn't be able to try to get the smallest sentence possible for someone who's guilty of a horrible crime and I would not be able to find and use any possible loophole in the legislation so that something that's not moral would be legal
