Digital loves contrasts. The picture is washed-out because the filmmaker used only one lighting source and/or they need to adjust the f-stop (the amount of light entering the lens at one time).

One last item from me. The final shot is angled up too far. He shouldn't have that much headroom.

I assume that HL links are all related to digital video settings, which is something you definitely need to know, but here's an old school suggestion: get some lamps and other light sources. It looks like you just used whatever light fixtures where already there in the rooms, which are designed for lighting space, like high up corners, and not for central objects (like actors). also you can't adjust them at all. get those lamps, then you can light it the way that you want it to be.
