Title Other Location 4600 Block of Portrait Place
Summary The Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a reported pit bull attack in the 4600 block of Portrait Place. A resident in the area had shot both of the dogs during the attack. Officers arrived on scene and investigated what had happened. The incident began when a homeowner in the area heard a dogfight in his back yard. The homeowner went to investigate and saw two dogs attacking his dog. The owner was able to get his dog into the house as the other dogs ran off.
The owner then checked the front of his home and observed a lady walking two smaller dogs down the sidewalk. He warned the lady that two pit bulls were loose in the neighborhood at the same time she and her two dogs were viciously attacked. The homeowner retrieved a handgun and ran out of his house to assist the lady. He initially tried to separate the animals and was bitten during the attempt. After not being able to separate the animals he shot both of the dogs. Both of the dogs ran off. One of the dogs was found dead in the area while the other was later located uninjured.
The female who was attacked was on the sidewalk and both of her dogs were on leashes. Her dogs had both pulled out of their collars during the attack and ran from the area. Both were later found by the owner.
The humane society also responded and will determine charges for the owner of the dogs. The citizen who shot the dogs was not cited.
