Age Differences in Dating: How old is too old?

Got a great uncle who married my great aunt when he was 32 and she was 20 and they recently had their 50th aniversary. America was such a different place back then, and it seems there is a stigma with such evident differences in age now more than back then. Is 10 years too much? 20? 40? Is that old prune Hefner all right with you? The sex factor seems to be hypocritical as well; older men seem to be able to get away with dating/marrying younger women more often. Anyway, thought it was an interesting topic and one I've been thinking about lately since I'm in the game right now.

:hatsoff:

It's a matter of what feels comfortable and natural. I don't believe that an 18 year old is a legal adult anymore. I believe that contemporary culture has moved the goalpost back to 21 yr old. I see some 30m/20f. I don't see a lot of 40m/21f. 40m/30w (and vice versa) seems perfectly normal.

Hugh gets laid because he's rich and popular. We could all pull that tail if we had those same things in the same quantity.

I'd say it's less an age thing and more a looks, lifestyle compatibility thing. If you're a balding, ridiculously foreheaded plain man, with advanced waist spread and a dodgy heart, you gotta wonder what a fit, nubile, hot little platinum blonde really sees in you .... no, let me guess. She fell for his personality.

As long as the two people are majority age and can relate to each other...I don't see a problem with any disparity.

Everyone enters a relationship with particular wants, needs and expectations. As long as the believe the other involve person can reasonably meet them, how can someone else judge there to be a problem? After all, there are people who are equal or in very close proximity age-wise who still aren't adequate fulfillers of the others' wants, needs or expectations.

Some poster tried to make reference to what they presumed my age range was once. To this I would say...Brad Pitt, Halle Berry, Johnny Depp and a few others are examples of people who are actually older than I am but I do have one thing in common with them...age is the last thing people tend to think about when they look at me...or they are very surprised when they find out my age. So, I tend to date accordingly.

It depends on the nature of the relationship. If it's serious, guys I would go about 15 years tops. If you're just fucking, if she's 18 go for it!

Agree with most, as long as you get along, no problems.

The "rule" I've always heard is half your age, plus 7... kind of a guide of sorts, but I have to say at 41, I will not date girls younger than 28 or so as a rule. :2 cents:

If age difference is a problem, the "maximum gap" is not set.
I mean, a 20 years old person and a 30 years old one are much more different than a 30 years old one and a 40 years old one.
But, like I said : If...

I got you there. My second cousin was a journalist at a local news network that had this chick I absolutely had/have a crush on, who I am certain was pushing 40 (and she was single), and I was going to have my cous' hook me up, but long story short, she got released and left the state and my cous' was moved to a competitor's network and that was the end of that.

But my point is I would no doubt take an older lady if she is as sexy as Jeanette is, but the only problem with that is I want four kids. And probably most of us here know about that dreaded 30+ age thing with women and having kids. But I was so into Jeanette I would seriously look past that.

Conventional wisdom is half + 7. Otherwise you tend to not have much in common, well except the sex. But that infatuation does wear off so too much difference leads to longing for what else is out there. Being a boy toy or a sugar daddy actually can get old.
