A huge upset in the first game - Germany beats Russia 2-0!

Once again Russia has big names in their roster, like Kovalchuk, Nabokov, Afinogenov, Morozov, Radulov...
And once again they have big problems playing as a team.

i didnt notice till the olympics how much germany grinded.

ofcourse as a canadian i will be routing for canada.

but sweden and finland are always interesting.

Theres still a few good names that might be added onto that as well because of first round eliminations. Maybe Getzlaf, Perry, and Subban (if they get invited and decide to go) It would be nice if Price went over there. I'm not too confident in Reimer and Dubnyk. Reimer is good but how good is he? It's possibly this season was just a flukie first season. So many goalies have shown promise in their first season and then shit the bed after wards. Andrew Raycroft anyone?

Kulemin is indeed with Russia but I didn't see any mention of Kessel being with USA. :dunno:

Canada add players to it's roster:

Hockey Canada announced the addition to its roster of goalkeeper Jonathan Bernier (Los Angeles Kings), defencemen Carlo Colaiacovo (St. Louis Blues), Marc-André Gragnani (Buffalo Sabres) and Mario Scalzo (Adler Mannheim, GER), and forward James Neal (Pittsburgh Penguins). Of the player additions, only Scalzo is expected to be in Canada’s lineup against Belarus on April 29, as the four other players will be arriving over the coming two days.

It was Norway's first win ever over Sweden in ice hockey. It was a shootout victory (2-0).

In past few years teams like Norway, Denmark, Germany and Belarus have proven that they should not be underestimated.
Denmark crushed us (finland) 4-1 in the opening game last year, and Germany and Belarus have taken some victories against the big names too.

I didn't put Switzerland and Latvia in that list because everyone who follows international hockey knows those two can challenge any team if they get their game going.

the swiss can upset but i never really noticed latvia being that much of a threat.

i always thought huet was french canadian not actually from france.

noticed germany and belarus have good teams. didnt even know denmark had a team. but if they beat finland they for sure have a team.

whats finlands roster? selanne? koivu? whats the goalies? toskala is let down for you guys. he had promise.

Latvia has almost everytime qualified from the first round and beaten or almost beaten many great teams.

Finland has pretty nameless team this year.
Few players from NHL and some former:
Tuomo Ruutu, Mikko Koivu, Sami Lepistö, Anssi Salmela, Jesse Joensuu, Niko Kapanen, Ossi Väänänen, Lasse Kukkonen, Petteri Nokelainen.

Goalies: Petri Vehanen, Teemu Lassila and Niko Hovinen. No NHL goalies in team Finland this year. Most interesting player seems to be
Minnesota Wild prospect Mikael Granlund, drafted ninth in 2010 NHL draft.

Germany won both Russia and Slovakia!

Slovenia is playing well considering that they are without their 2 NHL based players. I hope they don't relegate, it will be tough for them though, but they don't deserve it after their three performances so far

They really came back hard night before last against Norway.
As for the NHL, Caps are playing golf and the dead wings are cleaning their clubs as it's now 3-0 SJ.
