I hear ya. I grew up with Transformers, but my favorites were GI Joe and He-Man. I kinda want to see that Joe movie, but I'll download that one.
Yeah the next 2 movies I'm waiting for are Transformers 2 and Terminator. Those I will actually pay to see in the theater....then download them when I get home.

The guy playing Kirk is very likable. He has an attitude which is what the original Kirk had. I think the guy did a good job as a young Kirk, but the guy that plays Spock is from Pittsburgh and he does a good job as Spock. However, no one will play Spock as well as Leonard Nimoy.
I know what you mean. My late mother worked with a woman who was a first class Trekkie. I too am a Star Wars fan. If you want to get into Star Trek, this movie may be a good starting point, but I just wanted to watch it because it looked really good, with a lot of good action and scenery. I still have no desire to become a Trekkie, but I still say it's still a good movie to see.
If you like Star Trek, I say go see it. It's been getting really good reviews and I really like it.
