Up until I was finally able to bury the hatchet about what happened with the split (a couple of years ago), I always said that Jacques Villeneuve was the last Indy 500 winner. CART had its ups & downs, that I will admit. But, man, it was a beautiful thing! It really was. We had some of the best world class drivers coming here to race, at least from time to time. But oh well... things change. Best not to dwell on it, I finally decided. I still miss it though.

That's why this is a trick question - all in how the question is interpreted. There are a couple of "right" answers. I was thinking Emerson Fittipaldi. While he was not the most recent WDC to drive in CART, he was the last WDC to race an Indy car. But... Nigel Mansell was the most recent WDC to come to Indy Car and race. But... Jacques Villeneuve was the most recent WDC winner to race in Indy Car - even though he won it after leaving CART. So you're right too. After posting, I soon realized I had worded the question poorly. But maybe that made it more interesting... Nah, I just wasn't thinking!
