Does anyone here live in one of the cities that has Google Fiber? Chicago needs to step up and do whatever is necessary to get Google in the city

No, which is b.s. You'd figure Seattle would be on the short list for google fiber (and they were) but Kansas City and our outback cousins in Portland will have it before we will (if ever).

My internets is all clogged up and probably could use some fiber.
The reason why Google has chosen this mid size markets like Portland and KC is because Google would need free reign to implement the infrastructure for Fiber. They would need help from city officials with regards to access, fees and permits. There's alot of moving parts and so doing all of this would be much easier in a mid size market like KC or San Antonio than in Chicago or NYC

Google Fiber is meant for areas outside of major metro areas to have high speed internet access so that they are at par with everyone on speed.

the fuck! It's internet speed! Its like 100 times faster than any **** you have now, lol!
On one hand Google doing their own fiber reeks of being a gimmick or a publicity stunt as much as a serious business venture. On the other if this at least does something to increase competition and ***** our country not to have putrid infrastructure even a little bit then it's at least somewhat worth it. I'm not holding my breath for Google fiber or anything equivalent being in most places anytime soon though.
As bad as Google can be and has many faults as it's accumulated over the years I still trust them more than major telecom and cable companies. That probably says more about how bad telecom and cable companies are than anything.

I've been curious about the connection speed you guys have around the states, especially with all the infrastructures lagging behind due other interests of your government.

Do you really even need internet that multiple times faster than current ones or are you guys in America still using some old dial-up connections? Unless you are hosting some tube servers for porn, I can pretty safely say that any average person in normal household as of today will never need all the bandwidth. I think we all know where all that extra bandwidth is being used all the time anyway... High speed internet sounds more a marketing trick to make silly people pay more for same things they'd get for much lower price. I take all the American Apple fanboys are used to buy anything as long as price is set high enough and shiny fruits are included?

It might very bell be more than what most people need at present time. However, I have a feeling that's not always going to be the case. It's better to get the infrastructure ready now than to try and scramble to do so in the future when we are going to come up short. An even bigger point is that for the most part things worse than Google Fiber are far much worse for not that much less in cost. There are also big chunks of the country that either don't have broadband or if they do have it is very slow and expensive. A lot of what the US has might not even fit the modern definition of "broadband". Even in larger cities where relative high speed exist in the US, the value per speed and what one gets compared to most of the rest of the industrialized world is extremely poor. We have just about no regulation, virtual monopolies running our Internet services, and in short we get ripped off when we pay for our Internet access across the country. On top of that all our major cable and telecommunication companies are continually rated among the very worst corporations in the world when it comes to customer service. Almost nobody likes them, but is ****** to use them as there are no other practical choices.
