I guess it's a slasher as there's an antagonist who goes around ******* people and the ***** are fucking beyond ****** and gory. But it's really it's own thing. It's a female killer with motives unlike any other horror antagonist I can think...and that's part of what makes it as creepy as it is. It's supposedly based on true events, but even if that's true, there was some major artistic license being taken here.
It's solid and I highly recommend it, but I really need to take a moment to compliment the creativity and execution of the ***** (and there are quite a few.) This isn't old slasher fare with almost cartoonish machete hacks or one strike decapitations. These are realistic and innovative and just horrendous. The amount of detail spent on each truly makes them all works of art in some sick way. It's not ******* porn where the idea is to demonstrate some premeditated sadistic gross out or cringe contest. These ***** all have substance to them and often effect other aspects of the scene(s) in ways you'd never expect.
So yeah, if you like gore or really dark horror or you're just looking for something new and interesting, you might want to give this one a shot. There is a subnarrative that acts as commentary on capitalism and consumerism and even works in the current global economic crisis in a small way and it all fell a bit flat to me, but it's such a small part of the movie that it can be easily tuned out if you're just wanting the horror experience and nothing more.
someone lent me baise moi which was a little messed up but the other one she gave me irreversible was totally fubar although Monica bellucci was brave to do that scene
