Just like most spiritual texts, they served their purpose, and not all of it was bullshit either.
The historical and key, chronological aspects must be considered, which explains much.
The reality is that people often just like to argue that something "primitive" has no purpose and they like to discredit it.
Ironically, most of those same, self-proclaimed and allegedly "enlightened" and "advanced" people often don't understand the newer science anyway, to their own detriment.
E.g., People believing the moon landings were faked, for example, would not think so if they had at least a basic understanding of 18th century physics.
Their views are often similar to those of BC Greek era philosophy, and wholly inadequate and, most often, wholly incorrect.
Heh, you love mentioning the moon landing.
Ahem, so.. my little take on this:
One time Dionne Warwick was being interviewed on Jon Stewart's The Daily Show. He asked how she felt about her involvement with the newly-defunct 'Psychic Friends Network' and then with a completely serious face said..
"Didnt they predict that?"
There are plenty of nonbelievers in all the astrological.. zodiac stuff. It's not there to predict every last facet of the future and tell you how to live your life. If you've ever been to someone who mapped out your life and it wasnt accurate.. well, you're less lucky than I am.
The week after I was born an aunt plotted it, 20+ years later I read it and it was dead-on. It didnt go into excruciating detail and I dont believe anyone should have false hope in big predictions. But I wasnt *aware* of that chart she plotted, I didnt take a gander at it when I was 5 and call it bullshit.
Call me crazy but.. you shouldnt predict the future. If you say something is going to happen, that automatically nullifies it, IMO.
If you went back in time and told JFK he was gonna be shot and then he changed some slight thing and didnt get shot.. do you earn kudos from anyone but
yourself? The proof it happened would be gone. Not to mention the whole paradox of changing history and never being born and blah blah blah. That's the way I look at the zodiac. Sometimes it's feel-good nonsense that you'll talk to an old friend today or you'll get money outta nowhere.
.. and then sometimes it really does happen, some friend you havent spoken with since high school literally calls up outta nowhere. But, eh.. I dont check the stars often for advice on what to do TODAY.. usually in retrospect for shits and giggles.
But that's my thought.
