I think Eli is an ok quarterback and that's probably what he's going to be. Maybe in his very best years he will be borderline pro-bowl...maybe. He's not Grossman or anything. He's also not quite as bad as some people think. I will even go as far as to say that he's not the biggest problem for the team. On the other hand he is never going to be Peyton like some people thought he was going to be either. The Giants fans that thought that just have to face that reality.
I can say that in the trade that draft day the Giants got fleeced. There just is no way that Eli is equivalent to Philip Rivers, Shawne Merriman, and even another two drafts pick they threw in for him. It might go down as one of the worst trades in NFL history. I wouldn’t say it’s as bad as the Babe Ruth trade to the Yankees, but it’s probably right up there with the Jeff Bagwell trade from Boston to Houston in MLB for a 36 year old Larry Anderson and the Eric Lindros for Peter Forsberg trade in the NHL which also included Ron Hextall, Chris Simon, Mike Ricci, Kerry Huffman, Steve Duchesne, and a 1st round selection which was later turned into Patrick Roy. It's looking to be one of the worst in sports history. I know it's hindsight, but to justify a trade that lopsided Eli would have to play like Peyton.
I still don't know why he had so big of an issue with San Diego. With a team like Detroit or maybe the way Oakland has been the last few years I could perhaps see why a player might be that unhappy because the way the team is run is such a ridiculous mess. I didn't get that from San Diego, even back then. I bet Eli feels stupid now that San Diego has been one of the best team in the league for years now.
